theirs 2 i know of. if ur after simple base get a hold of Paul Thompson at Just Bases, great for simple stuff and he\'s very flexible and cheap, although i wouldnt ask him to do any highend stuff like on wooden bases.

also Fenris Games they do cast resin plinths of all shapes and sizes, got some recently and i was very impressed!

There\'s a company called Armstrong Bases, but they\'re old-fashioned and don\'t have a website. They usually go to lots of shows, so you might stumble upon them eventually. They have beautiful wooden plinths and very affordable prices.

Whats wrong with Woodbases.co.uk? They sell superb bases that are VERY well finished.

Just got the custom base for this years diorama, it is SUPERB! Looks better than my dio???

I\'ll second Ritual on that, Armstrong bases are very nice & cheap as chips

email: armstrong_bases@hotmail.co.uk
Tel. 0191 5270532

There is also http://www.just-bases.co.uk/index.html (but I\'ve not used them)

Edit (which DM did point out - should really read all the posts lol)

Armstrong do a lot of different types of plinths. Great variety! I don\'t have any pictures, but I bought a whole bunch at World Expo. They had some of the best plinths there, and they were among the cheapest too.

Thanks for that!

I\'m not averse to finishing off by hand but out of curiosity how smooth are they in the flesh? They look pretty good in the photos.

no idea mate, i\'ll be ordering some soon any way, it takes seconds to sand small things smooth with a mouse (an electric sander not the squeeky breeder kind!)

Cool, look forward to your impressions. These blocks would be a great way of increasing my stock of bases which is sadly depleted since I rarely go to shows any more.

Nice website that - I think they\'re the same as the blocks you can get from Hobbycraft shops. Out of the pack they\'re smooth enough, and it takes very little effort to smooth them down. I was paying about 60p per 2.5cm cube though, so I reckon this site might just be the answer for my cheap tendancies!

The blocks arrived :D

top and bottom are slightly rough which means you have a nice surface for glue and putty to attach to.
the sides are smooth so can either be varnished or painted with minimal work needed.

definately a good buy :)

Bit of smooth grade sanding and a wipe in the sides, smoothe of the top and bottom, bit of dye and varnish and they\'d be boss I reckon. well worth it.

Of you could get a length of squared timber from a DIY store and do it yourself lol That would work out way cheaper if you preffered that finish with many minis. Cut to spec too!

FWIW you can get square-section lengths of some hardwoods from timber merchants. If you have access to a good saw you can then cut them down into blocks.

Have to finish them completely by hand though.
