Polymer clay sculpting

Granddad!
Inspired both by Katherine Dewey\'s books and Dragonreach\'s postings (thanks Mike) I\'m having a go at her Deermouse
I\'m using Fimo soft at the moment, but have discovered the Polymer Clay Pit does Premo, Katherine\'s prefered PC

I\'m doing it half the size it is in her book, at this size I\'m having distortion probs, so may have to do some pre-baking
I may also have to adjust KD\'s \"leaching\" process to suit me
I\'ll post some pics shortly, didn\'t have the camera with me at the time

wooo hooo!!!..

....what excellent service :flip:
I ordered 2 blocks(2oz) of Premo, and 2 blocks(3oz) of Kato on sunday, online, from The Polymer Clay Pit
They\'ve arrived this morning, brilliant!

Granddad!
I thought so, no sweets tho :D

right, I\'m gonna start again, with the Premo first, see what the difference is like Vs the Fimo
Just gotta wait for my pasta maker I won on ebay, says he\'s posting that today
I think I\'ll pre-bake some eyeballs with the black Kato while I\'m waiting, I could also make a start on the new putty oven

so much to do...so little time.....

Pictish Mini Painting

No fur texture yet, that gets done when the body and head are altogether
I\'m getting to like this stuff :D

Granddad!
thanks wren,
I\'m getting the hang of the stuff, surprisingly clay shapers tend to tear at it, where as metal tools smooth it out nicely

moving on a bit...

after looking at the real thing
deermouse_real.jpg

I felt the eyes were too small, and the ears were the wrong shape
So I\'ve basically been reworking the head

I also started preparing his tush for his tail

as I was pre-baking some eyes and other assorted shapes, thought I might as well bake the core of the rabbit

this will be another WIP at a later stage just wanted to share :D

It\'s just a practice piece to get used to this Polymer stuff, anyway I\'m angling for the girlie cutie vote :D:D

Mick, it is looking very good.

Did you do the eyes in something else? Differnet color? Pre baked?

mickc22

Granddad!
Thanks Kevin
Yeah the eyes are black pre-baked Kato clay, it seems a bit firmer than the Premo, it also bakes quicker at a higher temp

Sguiiig!!
;)
