Polystyrene

Hello all,

Can anyone tell me where I can buy Polystyrene by the block and at least an 1\" thick.

I have been to Lowes (the did sell it in sheets of 3/4\" think and 8 feet long), Hobby Lobby and Michaels with no luck.

If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

welcome to the madhouse.

Don\'t give up on Lowes/Home Depot. One in my area carries 1\" & 1-1/2\". The others act like it is impossible to get. Ask the manager, check other home centers in your area.

What do you want it for? Maybe we can suggest alternative materials if you have a specific application in mind.

What exactly are you looking for? Insulation foam to build terrain or Polystyrene sheet plastic to build models. Ive never seen model plastic thicker than .250 or 1/4 inch but insulation foam is sold up to 2 inches thick. The White bead poly stryene ius harder to find thicker than 3/4 inch but the dense construction foam thats blue or pink is often sold in thicknesses up to 2 inch\'s. Try Home Depot instead of Lowes but both places should have it.

Where you at by the way knowing ones location always helps if we are to direct you to a place to buy the material. In otherwords update your profile :)

Things would go a lot smoother if people would use the correct terminology.

Expanded polystyrene is what he\'s looking for. It\'s that foamy soft stuff you use in home insulation. Which, normally doesn\'t come in a thickness more than 2 inches.

Polystyrene is softer than styrene, and very flexible. It will melt if you use superglue. You normally find it in things like clothing or water toys since it\'s buoyant. It has cells instead of \"pills\". This is due to a lack of a chemical catalyst agent.

Styrene is what you make models out of. It\'s strong, doesn\'t melt in superglue and can be spray painted. It\'s normally white.

close:
Beaded polystyrene (styrofoam) comes out of an oven in a \"bun\" that is about 6\' tall, 4\' wide and 8\' long. From there it goes to a slicer where it it cut into various thicknesses.

I\'m not sure about the extruded polystyrene (blue or pink depending on brand - better for making terrain), but I have seen 5.5\" sheets for laying between 2x6 lumber.

Try the yellow pages under insullation or plastics.

Thanks everyone for the feedback I really appreciate it! Sorry for the delay with my response.

I am in the process of completing a 4x4 desert board to play my Tomb Kings on and wanted to add some simple terrain like a couple of hills and perhaps an oasis.

I\'ll give Home Depot a try.

Thank!

If its the foam you\'re looking for I get it in blocks up to one inch at my local michaels and hobby lobby stores - or spheres or cones - usually near the floral section - but get the white crafting stuff, not the green floral stuff -
