Polyurethane

Hello All

On my last mini I worked really hard on the highlights. Then I hit it with a couple coats of poly and they disappeared. I went heavy because the base was supposed to be snow. Is this a thing? Do I just need to poly the base first? Or is there a better way to seal a mini? Can I get different affects if I use different polys on different parts of the mini?
thanks

Any varnishing knocks back the colours and contrast.
When you say Polyurethane what varnish do you mean?, as that generally gets thought of as household/decorators varnish?

For my money,... hit the whole thing (when finished) with testors dullcote. Then go back over any areas you want shiny with "future floor wax" (or any clear floor wax if future isn't available where you live)

For the Testors; do you mean the aerosol? or d you paint on the lacquer? How do you use the floor wax? Paint it on as well ??

Unless you are going large scale, just use aerosol DulCoat.

Show Piece? one very light coat of dulcoat so you don't affect the colors.
Play piece? 2-3 wet coats of Krylon Krystal Kleer, then a light coat of DulCoat.

Yes... dullcote aerosol. And yes,. you brush on the floor wax in any place that you want shiny (if you go to my thread, and check out the shoes on the clockwork fairy. The floor wax is how I got the patent leather look)
