Positioning a desk light for painting?

Maybe it\'s my eyes (I never seemed to have this problem when I was younger...), but I just cannot get my light in the correct position for painting.

Constant movements of the thing (it\'s one of those angle-poise ones, so it can move all over the place!) is getting annoying.

Is there an optimal position for the light to be in?

I should point out that I\'m a left-hander, so my light is on the right-hand side...

Many thanks.

Having recently picked up painting again after some years, I am currently suffering with a small angle poise single bulb lamp.

I am getting a strip bulb halogen lamp this weekend. I used one some years ago and it was excellent.

A strip bulb means light comes from all along the bulb, not just one point (sphere) - this makes for less shadows on the model as you paint it.

Hope that helps.

I use two lamps placed just above my head so the light comes from right and left and a little way above.
