How about empty shell casings on the floor and a Storm Bolter at his feet.
I\'ve made shell casing from stripped telephone cable plastic cut to roughly 4mm lengths and painted as Brass. Make sure that they look old and showing Verdigris.

got to admit. that is a million times better. i would put one of those new genestealers leaning over the backside. that would make the model. or even like 5 or 6 genestealers leaning in and leading to the dead guy.

To illustrate Mike\'s idea on the shell casings :

In general, I think it looks really good and I think you succeeded in giving that ancient worned out feeling. The problem is that at GD it might get missed because of the subtle effect of the atmosphere you portrayed.

If I were you, I\'d keep it as is, but add more details. For example :

*) Cracks in the gems;
*) Mark the shadows of the step;
*) Scratches on the metalic surfaces (most of all on the floor);
*) Add some dust with grounded pastels (greys and browns).

I\'d also try to make the corrosion marks thinner.

That looks great. It almost needs a distinct light direction to embellish the mood. That might be a hell of a lot of work at this point since most of the highlights and shadows are complete. Maybe create this affect with some more shadows on the wall and floor to our right (side where his helmet is) since most of your NMM highlights look like there is a light coming from in front of him to the left.
Give the model more of feeling like, \"Its been a long fight and now I rest.\"
or a tragic feeling.

I think with the addition of more mood to this pose and base work it would be phenomenal.

that floor begs for a tentacle to come out of the space between the metal works.

***
and I\'d black out the area under his metal grating.

The base really brought the model to \'life\' (ZING!) and changing the floor to match the throne base was a step in a good direction.

I look forward to the \"wow\" additions; it\'s what really separates the good from the great! I think you have a shot at GD!

Well...Up to now this is what I\'m entering into Golden Demon. I\'ve made a few additions to the model including stained glass in the windows, Spent shells and a power sword that is way past its best. I have tried not to make the additions too prominent as I dont want the focus taken from the termy. I may or may not tinker with this again, depends on your feedback guys. Let me know what you think :D

you need to take the stained glass out. it leads the eye away from the mini. if you do use stained glass do something in purples and blues. this will continue to push the piece out. but i would seriously take that piece out. a brilliant model thus far though.

Totally agree about taking the glass out. It was the first thing I saw, and had to sort fo work the eyeballs away from it. But I don\'t know if it\'s \'cause I read uber\'s post first or not.

Very nice, good luck!

Consider the glass well and truly gone :D

My girlfriend said it took your eye away from the model but I try not to listen to her too much or she will keep talking to me...lol

I will repost the pic without the glass asap :)

No more stained glass...I have to agree, the glass did draw away the eye from the mini. Once again thanks for the comments guys.

A minor point...and perhaps only applicable photographically...

Right now, the backpack/golden eagle look like they could be part of the back wall.
The photographic view is squared to the straight front edge of the metal plates.

He looks too \"posed\" on the base, IMO.
You can generate more visual interest with a small change.

I would bring him forward a bit and turn him slightly to \"his\" right.
This will also allow the judges to see more of him.

Agree with others that the addition of small \"lived in\" details will help.
They will work best if they \"emerge\" with an extended view.
Think of it as the \"anti- stained glass window\" effect.
The exception would be a second fig or a light source.

Great job.

Making the first cut will be a win for me in its own right...Ive never made the 1st cut before with a mini. Im hoping to enter the Broodlord from space hulk if I can get it finished in time. Pics will come soon

Bone = Khemri brown base coat, Graveyard earth + rotting flesh blending up and adding more rotting flesh each time then add a touch of skull white to the mix. pure skull white thinned right down for the final highlight. If you want to darken it down a bit during the blends use devlan mud wash.

Muchas Gracias! Will be trying that out.

I have been using graveyard to dersert yellow to bleached bone. it looks ok, but I am gonna see which i prefer. this looks much more realistic maybe my old way looked a little too comic book over large areas
