I just came back from a pub, and we invented the simplest wargame EVER.
The 4+ game
All you need is two coins or, if you are as geeky we are, the D6 from your pocket. Heads is 1, Tails is 0. Game goes as follows....
You are fighting mano-a-mano. First, both players set their blows. Both throw a coin, on 1 or 4+ you hit. If you get hit, throw a coin again to soak the damage - 1 or 4+ soaks. If you don\'t soak the hit, you take one point of damage.
Repeat until one player lost all his life points (we played with 5). This game is so incredibly simple, yet we had so much fun its unbelievable.
We even refined the game: First round, everyone rolls a d6 to determine health, then play the game as stated above.
Simple and can be played everywhere.
Cheapass Games also has a simple strategic wargames which works with some dice as the only things needed, but it wasn\'t really as much fun as I believed before.... link will follow.
