Praise to my clippers!

It may sound weird, but the single, most useful beyond compare piece of equipment I own are my wire clippers.

You may know what I\'m talking about, those cutting plyers that the chaps at GW try to sell you as \"special modelling equipment\" (they are just electrical wire cutters, and can be found at a much cheaper price at any hardware store).

I realized their true magnificency while I was finishing the base for my Knight of Balance (ID 4258), trimming the edge of the grid piece. I had used them to remove flash, the tab at the figure\'s feet, plastic bits from a sprue and bits of plasticard.

So, I guess this is the only piece of equipment I\'d recommend anyone to have, even if you are not into converting, since they are so useful.

I just bought a pair also. I got them at the local Lowes after looking at GW\'s version at the gaming store. They have been really handy in cutting of bits of flash and on my fianna.. HUNKS of flash that I can only guess are there to hold parts of the mini together during shipping and handling. Great tool.

I also picked up a Dremel and have been a little nervous about starting with it for fear of sanding some poor space marine\'s head right off. ;)

Sandy,

Be careful ... make sure you use a vice to hold the mini ... you don\'t want to sand anything else off.

Definately want to be careful with that dremel sandy - I\'ve got a couple of flat spots on my thumb and index finger on my left hand from free handing with a dremel. The worst part was the smell of burning flesh.

Sandy, get a rheostat (?sp) for that dremel. Preferably with a foot control, sorta like on sewing machine. When you drill or sand into your finger, it\'s a quick lift of the foot and it\'s off. No fumbling with dials while you are bleeding. :p

With the foot control you can manicure your nails too. Or the hubby\'s, if he\'s sleeping. :moon:

Oh, and wear EYE PROTECTION.

Actually, when I sanded them down, SA, I didnt even realize it until my wife at the time asked what all the little red splotches every where were from. Thats when the smell of burning flesh really sank home (I was making buttons for a reinacting shirt from antler, so things smelled like burning bone anyway).

One time my clippers were more of a bother than a help. I wascutting some plastics and it clipped them and the resounding energy put itno it snapped the piece I needed in two. It also had to do with the fact there was an air bubble in it, but.. meh! :D
