Pre-Heresy EC Marine

Been working on this guy for about 2 weeks now, he is a practise mini for a GD project am thinking about. Iv put him up for 2 reasons, just so u guys can check the scale of the anatomy, leg length, arm length etc and some ideas.
iv not decided which legion he will belong to, i think the claw and the fantasy sword (exotic demonic blade?) makes him a good candidate for the side of chaos, was originally goin with Emps Children, i think the head and backpack lends itself to Death Guard but I am planning a long cloak that drags behind him and a ultramarine/roman leather tassle belt thing as well which could give him more of a luna wolves look...
be interesting to see wot u guys come up with :-D

thats awesome. if you wanted to make it imperial instead of chaos the first legion that popped into my head was iron hands. in terms of chaos, i think it fits luna wolves the best

I noticed in the last photo, you\'ve flipped and chopped the shoulder pad - whatcha gonna do there? :)

nice. love him. i\'d second luna wolves. good to see someone to a true scale marine (something i have been longing to do for a while!).

as for teh shoulder pads, i like the second option but tbh i reckon the studded stanrd ones would look better on him (see the front covers for \'false gods\' and \'galaxy in flames\')

where did you get the sword from?

well i was considering usin a PH term shoulder pad over the power claw. its the more realistic option as a larger one would be quite restrictive...

i might just lob some studs on the swords shoulder, am gunna sit down look through my PH artwork and do a few sketches..

as for the sword its the warhammer fantasy wizards, a perfect sword scale wise (its almost as big as him!)

For the most part I like the sculpt so far. Scale is good, and proportions.

The knees and feet are a bit funny though. Most kneepads on Marines are flat or curved on the bottom, ones with a sharp point like that don\'t look like they can move very well. A slight change should help the model look a lot more natural.

The feet should probably be a bit bigger as well. They don\'t need to taper down as much in the toes.

When it comes to picking a legion, remember that the Death Guard hated ornamentation. They would not have cloaks, tassels, or other unnecessary details. The original color scheme was pretty much bare metal with a few colored areas for identification on the battlefield. EC or Luna Wolves or something would be a better choice I think.

Very clean! It almost looks computer generated.

I think the boots could use a little more bulk, at least in comparison with regular SMs, and he definitely says \'cloak\' to me.

I really like this so far! It\'s great to see a marine sculpted to the proper scale. Can\'t wait to see this finished!

right big update, iv made the decision to go with EC, its purely for asthetic reasons, purple and gold will look alot nicer. iv got a ton of work to do still, and iv got to try and finish and paint it for the 28th!

@Jericho, I totally see where ur coming from with regards to his feet, its only a test peice and am on a short time scale, so i cant fix it, but the GD project will have nice and chunky ankles for big feet.

looking good, surely you can enlarge the feet justa bit, it would make a big difference.

love the banner - how did you do that?

I really like this so far (No comment on the feet :D)

But that purity seal looks naff :p
Sorry - the paper is fine, and actual seal nice, but the placement and they way they attach just doesn\'t look right to me - I dunno if I\'m the only one who thinks that?

The seal seems pretty good to me! :p looks more realistic that the papers the same width all the way up, it\'d be easier to write on for sure :p like the positioning too, its mostly out of the way, yet on show.

He\'s looking awesome so far, i\'ll enjoy seeing how he\'s finished :)

alrite guys update time!

iv managed to resolve the issue i had with hi left elbow, iv just made it really chunky and added a nice spike to it. the cloak am not entirely happy with, but am a little out of my depth with fabrics so it will have to do for this piece, still to add a fir trim at the bottom. backpack still needs alot of work, id like to make the central bit really chunky by adding a large turbine or somethin, not sure yet.
the base is another sticking point, considering painting the rock in obsidian colours to contrast with the purples and golds, with a banner of a loyalist legion draped on the steps, I also want the inscription \'Oh how my noble deeds are smeared with the blood of Heroes\', some where on the base to really sell the loyalist turned traitor idea and the moral dilemma u get in the novels. although, i think i might be over complicating the base so iv also been considering these ideas but on a simple flat tiled floor to keep the emphasis on the mini, ill prob do some more drawing and see wot ideas everyone comes up with.
I also want to sculpt a partial eagle on his left shin and add some square studs on his other shin

@Dan - Its not actually a seal its an oath (of somethin or other) that marines took before heading into battle, its from the novels, so a little fluff to make it realistic

@freak - the technique for the banner i got from Here its one of those techniques u think \'why didnt i think of that!\' also the feet arnt wide enough and neither is his lower torso, unfortunately its a little too close to GD and would take alot of sculpting to fix, i also dont want to risk ruining it (coz am a coward lol). but the next lot (PH SW Wolf Guard) will be spot on i promise u!

thanks for the kind comments guys, appreciated!

thanks for the link. i am gutted i didn\'t see this dude properly at p.b. at least i got to say hi, across a crowded table!!

one thing - the cape looks a bit narrow on this photo:
10elqh5.jpg

looks like he is wearing a skirt (which i suppose if fitting for an ec!!) it just looks like it is bulging out around his hips. maybe fill it out a little more towards the top?

@freak - I think the main issue their is the waist is too thin and the cloak hugs his hips too much, although if it had been more vertical i think it be less interesting. also iv left the cloak quite flat so i can have a base at some major freehand :flip: ill have a proper look when iv finished off the little annoyin bits - cheers

Update time!

Finished working on the legs, the eagle is a replication of the Vet Serg\'s, although its not obvious because the other half is \'hidden\', i think the studs help balance the top and the bottom out. I also put some nicks into the bottom of the cloak to balance out the damage the banner has took.
