Primer issues with vallejo primer

So I am generally open to new ideas when it comes to new tricks and things. earlier this year I purchased an airbrush and began playing with it. I am trying different things out as I go. My current *thing* is using this Vallejo Black Primer Acrylic Polyurethane. However, even when given about 24 hours to dry, the stuff is rubbing right off, not just that, it almost peels!

A few notes: I have not had this happen with GW primer.

I do a soapy bath in warm water with some dawn, followed by scrubbing each part with a toothbrush, the rinsing, followed by towel dry before hand.

One of my friends said I might be using their "brush on primer" instead of the one I should use with the airbrush. (I am using this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004BN5RUU?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage)

What could I possibly be doing wrong? I have NEVER had issues like this with the old GW rattle cans.

That's the same stuff I use via airbrush and don't really have any troubles. Admittedly I am a beginner with the airbrush too. You're not thinning the primer at all, right? Is this on metal or plastic minis?

It does peel and is not that durable on metal or hard plastic. It's still good but not for gaming minis. Its a self leveling polyurethane coating not so much a true primer. If you want a really good acrylic primer Badger's is amazing :) I use both but save vallejo for well cast/ prepped display pieces and badger more for gaming pieces.

Boguz, nope, not thinning it. The stuff works great on plastics but not on metals.

Zab, what is the difference between badger and GW?

It bonds better and sands better too.

I am a gw fan boi since rouge trader but since i left gaming to become a display painter i have to admit that there are other companies out there who do things better. Paint is one thing gw does well, but they are no longer the only ones doing this and they get their butt handed to them regularly.

for my money,.. a rattle-can of Dupli-Color spray-on primer,... works wonders, sticks well and lays down really nicely on the models. (available in black, white, and grey)

I like the enamels too but i can't spray outside all year round so i need something i can run through the AB or brush paint on indoors during the winter. Spray cans are great value when painting armies, terrain and vehicles though :)

I had a bit of an issue with Vallejo grey surface primer lately, was priming my anime chick for this months paint up and I guess I had the psi to high and or was shooting to far away because I got this bad sandy speckled look I have to sand down and redo. Anyone had this happen to you?

I do like the convenience of airbrushing my minis inside, but when I can I use Rust-Oleum 2X ultra cover primer, flat black, covers really nice and has a great flat black look.

No never. Certainly not with my Vampirella in this very contest last year. Glad to see the curse lives on -_-
