Has anybody tried using a Car Primer to prime there models up instead of the GW ones. On a different website a long while back i read a topic on it but cant find the site no more.

What is your opinion on this, also your thoughts on it working on plastic models as well.

I use the cheaper Duplicolor automotive spray can primer (from Wal Marx). It does a very good job. Smooth, no loss of detail.

here is a very good primer test I found on the web. The duplicolor was not part of the test, but should fair as well as krylon. (which did very well)

For Spray primer I use Halfords. (There are two types. One is just paint primer, the other is the paint with some filler. Can\'t recall the wording but it\'s obvious if you read the back of the can. You want the one that\'s just paint.)

Mostly I use brush primer though. Vallejo and Gamecraft minipaint. My current favourite as they do both white and black though the black is a little shiny. http://www.connectstores.com/ralpartha/sp_19261.html

I use car primers for most priming (just a little bit of brush-on primer for some small parts). If you buy a decent brand, warm the can and shake it well you should have little trouble getting good results.

Think i will give the car spray a go then, going to teach my 13 year old son to paint today so its going to start getting expensive on spray undercoat.

Warm the can by filling the sink with WARM (80-90 F) is plenty (sorry, Celcius challenged) water and setting the can in it... Not hot. No microwaves, no setting it on the stove. PLEASE.

I think thats a great tip as well. I have a bad habit of letting my spray paint outside overnight when the temp hits about 25 F... lol
