Priming mini\'s in the Great White North.

i prime them inside, with the nozel heading at the floor, with newspaper under the mini.

once i\'m done (about 4-5 minutes later), i whipe the floor clean with a rag, and open the window for a few minutes (its around -10 Celcius these days, gotta be quick)

it worked well so far.

i have 2 cats and a pregnant wife, so i just close the door when i do my painting... make a nice time off too.

Does paint-on primer have an expiration date? I\'ve been having trouble with certain light colors going on kind of lumpy. I\'m using the same method of painting I always do, and it worked just fine until the last two minis I\'ve tried to paint. The only thing I could think of is that my primer somehow soured.

Also, if I have mounted said mini with the lumpy paint on a base, am I going to be able to strip the icky paint off (with oven cleaner) without the mini coming out of the base, or the things I\'ve glued to the base coming off?

brush primer can separate just like any paints over time. its a great thing to use if you know what you are doing but can be bloody awful if you dont. i just spray from three sides on an old army box in my man room and then run out and wait a half hour till i do more. its annoying but *shrugs* what can i do.

in the summer i am always out in the driveway and my neighbor is seen staring at me peculiarly.

Yeah, I\'m at the \"bloody awful\" stage right now. I found a can of gray spray primer that I bought for something else. I think it\'s Tamya (or something along those lines). I spray my mini out on my porch and see what happens. Can\'t come out any worse than it is right now :cussing:

I\'ve been reading a lot of the priming threads and no one seems to use my technique so far ( correct me if I am wrong). I use FLOQUIL\'s white figure primer. Its white and flows VERY well. I poster putty a small bottle cap onto a paper plate and then spray small bursts into the cap to get a puddle of primer in the cap. I then use a small plastic bristle brush to wet paint the mini completely. I find this more accurate and easier to get better coverage because I can draw the wet paint around the mini well and get undersides etc. I usually use the bathroom in the basement to do the quick spray bursts and then hurry over to my desk in the basement. The other advantage to this is that I dont have a ton of fumes floating about.

I don\'t quite see the point of turning a liquid into an aerasol, then back into a liquid. (technically not what happens, but what appears to)

Any paint can go old and bad, including primer. I find shaking it like crazy works, though I may just be ready to give up on my old bottle of \"smelly white primer.\"
It has little white clumps. I suspect they are pigment that has dried to the point water won\'t separate it anymore. - if you don\'t understand, try opening a 10yr old bottle of Armory metalic paint; it actually rusts.

My paint on primer was purchased around 11 or 12 years ago, so it\'s probably no surprise that it\'s about useless.

I ended up using spray primer out on my freezing porch. It worked great.

I used Ral Partha brush-on primer throughout the many months of nasty weather.

It\'s no longer made, as far as I know, but there\'s a store in Toronto that has a decent stash of it.

Thinned a bit with water, it glides on, no troubles so far.

A good stir with a toothpick is always a good idea.

Spray is definitely faster, when you\'re doing a large number of figs. But brush-on is easier to control, and works just as well, in my opinion. Plus there\'s no fumes.
