Priming resin

All right, it seems I am doing something wrong here. I ahve some Fenryll stuff here, which is made of resin. I have washed and cleaned everything well, scrubbed with soap and lukewarm water to get the mold release agent off and let it dry well. I mounted the stuff on bottlecaps and prepared to spray it. Well... the resin has a strange colour, blue, pink or grey, and after priming, the colour still shows through. My bottlecaps are primed in a nice and even coat, but the lack of detail is somewhat unnerving and besides I didn\'t really want to paint bottlecaps :D Now does anyone have an idea what I did wrong? I tried brush on primer too but it didn\'t work too well either. Frankly, I am at a loss. How do I correctly prime resin? OR paint it without the previous resin colour showing through?

Okay, this is right off the top of my head..

..and therefore it may be wrong.

I read somewhere that you should prime resin with automotive primer as it has more of an etching capacity than what we would normally use.

I am gonna search the forums, but someone else might know more than me..;)

*EDIT* didn\'t find much in the forums. But this is what Armorcast advise (and they should know)

PRIMING
WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU SCRUB ANY NEW RESIN MODEL WITH DISHWASHING DETERGENT (DAWN DISHWASHING DETERGENT IS GOOD!) AND A STIFF SCRUB BRUSH. There are always some residual films left behind from the molding process that may inhibit the paint from adhering. When it comes to a choice of primers, we strongly recommend an enamel or lacquer based primer. It will cut through any residual mold release and bond to the resin. We especially recommend Krylon brand Sandable Gray Primer. (In general hobby primers do not have the required solvent strength.)

VERY IMPORTANT: Mist (spray very lightly) a light primer coat and let it dry completely (at least half an hour) before spraying heavier primer coats.

In fact, this is what their site recommends:

Priming

I\'d suggest priming your model with something like a spray Car Body Primer (available from most motor stores). Some model primers don\'t have the required solvent strength to adhere to resin properly. If the primer comes away then anything you have painted over it comes away too, which would be a bad thing!

That\'s funny I did a fenryll mini a will ago and I had no probleme priming it with my GW spray and I still have one that I primed at the same time but didn\'t paint that\'s still well primed.
