printed 3D sculpture of Brock Lesnar

Here is something different. This started as a 3D sculpture in Zbrush by my friend Mariano. I thought it was so cool and asked if we could try to print it, he said ok lets try. After months of research and checking with 3D printers I finally found one in Latvia that specializes in printing miniature figures. I wasn't going to risk sending it to shapeways because I have never got anything back from them that kept the high detail of the virtual sculpture. I could be choosing the wrong material to print in from shapeways but I still wasn't willing to risk it. I had it printed in 54mm and 75mm, I am painting the 75mm one and below are the steps from this weekend. The detail on the print is mind blowing, even the detail of the inside of the throat is there (not that you will ever see it). No copies are being made just one for me and one for Mariano that I will be painting for him. We have a couple more projects in the works so hopefully more fun stuff to come. Let me know what you think so far.

Here is the 3D sculpture done by Mariano.

Here are the parts after I have cleaned him up. The next picture shows the 54mm model with the support structure still attached from the printer.

I'm really going to put some overtime on this guy because I want to have him done by Thursday so I can take him to the Atlanta figure show this weekend. I'll be cutting it close but with a little luck I can do it.

That is very cool. It would be more cool if I could get a copy. But whatever. Good luck, I hope you get it done in time. You need a sculpt of Rogan also. And maybe a diorama of Overeem wrecking Brock's torso with massive kicks! ;)

Hi, very nice model. Can you give us the contact information of the 3d printing service you used? Also, how much did the prints cost? Thanks.

That is really really nice. My day job is as a 3D artist and an editor at 3D world magazine and I see a lot of 3D prints and zbrush sculptures. This is one of the best prints I've seen yet.

I'd also be interested to known which company did it.

(Great painting too!)

This is awesome, I always thought an MMA line of miniatures would be great, I'm not a Lesnar fan but that sculpt looks great and more sculpts of other fighters would be epic.

MIKE YOU ARE AWESOME! Not a fan of Lesner's but it is spot on! Can't wait to see this and talk to you about the process. Dave

Thanks guys for checking him out. The 3D arena is really an interesting thing to explore. Like you Rob I haven't seen many figures that print as clean as this one, I mean this guy was flawless. Well the guys name I used is Maxim and the box had a return address for Artig Toys in Latvia (they make toy soldiers). He works for them but I don't know for sure if the printing was associated with Artig or not. If anyone is serious about getting in contact just send me a PM and I'll shoot you his email address. Maxim is really good with knowing where to cut the figure for maximum detail and if you wanted to cast the guys or not. He can also clean up any problem areas, he is a huge help.

10 Ball; Thanks and yes that is the picture. Nice find. Not sure about the tat yet.

Chad; I hear ya. I would love to have made copies of this but Mario and I were worried that it might not be right since it is the likeness of Lesnar.

Stoxo; I got three different figures printed twice in 54mm & 75mm so a total of six prints for around $494. I am not sure if this is competitive or not but like I said I wasn't sacrificing quality for a cheap price.

Cleezy; I would agree with you about the MMA figures, Mario did say that they are extremley time consuming so not sure if he plans to do anymore.

My main man Wigdog, thank you sir. I can't wait till this weekend for the show. I'll bring the 54mm model too so you can check it out.

Nah, it's just a big guy, possibly a wrestler who excels at takedowns but has limited submission training, and yet an incredible ability to defend against submissions. Possibly due to insane strength. That's all I see, I don't even know what a Lesnar is. Some kind of rip off of an Astartes? ;)

But I do see your point.

Looks great! You've done an excellent job on the skin tones and I'm glad you took the tongue down to a more natural looking pink. Very cool project. Will we be seeing the other 2 figures you had printed anytime soon? I'm curious what else you had created.

Good luck in Atlanta!

Thanks Bailey! That original color of the tongue was just a color I had on the pallete used for basecoat. As soon as Brock is done I'll get working on the other two figures. Mariano is as excited as I am to see them painted. I'll post the wips as I get to them for sure.

Thanks for the wish for Atlanta sir. You should try and make this show some time, it is a lot of fun.

Last night was decoration night. I painted the tattoos on his chest and back. After closely looking at his tats I would really like to sit down and have a talk with his tattoo artist/cell mate. I also started on the short sponsors, I gave a nod to my buddy Mariano and his CG work and Fat Guy's, which is a burger joint in my town. The skulls and swords down the left side is the logo for "death clutch" (actually on his shorts). I figured since I was painting it I could put my own sponsors on there. Let me know what you think.

thanks Chad and Wigdog. Gotta do some clean up on the lettering tonight, we'll see how they do. I hate rushing on painting.

That's funny... (not the model). I just played trivia against Brock two weeks ago. Music trivia, he wasn't very good at it. True story. He's from Minnesota (where I'm from) and he comes up occasionally to St. Cloud and visits a local restaurant called Granite City Brew Pub. Tuesday night is trivia night and he happened to be up and came in and played. Giant of a guy and really nice in person. Not that I'm friends or anything but I should mention this to him next time he's in and if I get a chance.

This model is absolutely fantastic and the paint is really great too. My only critique might be the tattoo on the chest seems to be a bit wide - that back is awesome!

Suki; that would be so cool if you told him about it and showed him the pictures. Don't tell him about the tattoo artist being his cell mate though! I'll look at the chest tat again. Thanks for the story, that is really cool.
