Problems with camera

I\'ve been looking through the memory cards on my camera and have had several \"Unidentified Images\" where all there is is that message and no picture. At first I just deleted those thinking it was some remnant of an image I thought I had deleted until I relised I had missing pictures I know I hadn\'t removed. I then checked one card on my computer\'s card reader and the unidentified images showed up. So it looks like the issue is with my camera. It\'s a Canon EOS 400D. The cards are from Kingston. Anybody got any idea what\'s causing this? of course my camera is out of warranty...

Well the camera took the pictures and wrote them properly to the card, so that seems fine. Maybe you could try backing up the card first, reformatting it in the camera and see how that works.

Have you previously had the card/camera plugged into the computer to view images and rotated any of them whilst viewing direct from the card? When you go back to viewing those rotated images in-camera, the camera won\'t read \'em properly....

If it aint that, reformat the card. I reformat my cards almost every time I use them just in case.

Some of them probably would have been viewed and rotated, yes, but not all of those that were unidentified, I don\'t think

I just tested that theory, and you\'re right. Also, looking at the imported images from one card that I formatted on Chern\'s advice, the one image I know that was unidentified was taken in portrait so I probably did rotate that image on viewing on the computer. I can\'t be sure about all the others because I stupidly erased those that were unidentified on the other cards thinking they were now lost to me.
