I do like to help painters (and I like getting help) no matter if they are Pro or not. I have often posted threads where there is almost no response.....just happens. One reason I didn\'t respond to your Bull Ogre thread is that I simply don\'t like Ogre\'s. DON\'T GIVE UP.

If he hasn\'t already, ask Ogrebane to comment on your Bull Ogres. He loves ogres, and seems to like giving constructive feedback. He certainly has helped me.

I\'ll look through your gallery and give you some feedback, but I am by no means able to give you any \"expert\" advice.

Don\'t sweat it - pretty much the only feedback I get on my minis comes when I beg for it in the forums. The feedback is usually quite helpful.

One great way to get comments, is to make sure you do it yourself. I don\'t mean just randomly hand out a few, but do it on a regular basis.

I think people are more apt to give you comments if you do the same for them.

Sometimes I PM folks privately and give comments to them as well. I\'m not looking for those folks to reciprocate, but damned if it does work that way.

Take a general interest in what your peers are doing, and don\'t just expect everyone to wait for your next submission.

EDIT: In fact (and this isn\'t directed at you DD1964) I have stopped commenting in threads of folks that don\'t really comment for others. Those people make an \'discuss submissions\' thread, beg for votes/comments, and disappear until the next submission. Screw that. If they are too busy to comment on others, I can\'t be arsed to do it for them.

Top advice that. There\'s a definite correlation between the amount of comments you leave for others, and the amount you receive on your own stuff.

And furthermore...

I just used the CMoN Search functions.

I used it to check how many times I had responded in the DISCUSS SUBMISSIONS thread in the last month.

40 times. Lots of those times on other peoples submissions:

Then I randomly chose another painter for the same search. Spacemunkie. Since he is one of my favorite painters and definatly a \'top notch\' painter.

40 times. Lots on other peoples submissions.

So, then I searched DesertDragon1964 using the SAME parameters.

4 times. All four on your own submissions.

I don\'t mean any of this to pick on you, but IF you want to be a valid member of the community, there is some GIVE AND TAKE you need to participate in.

Iv only done 6 in the last month. Shameful. But I have done alot on other groups, especialy the eBay group.

But I don\'t expect stuff on mine, which is why I havn\'t started a WIP thread in ages, and have posted mini\'s now without posting them in the forums.

*EDIT* Oops! Not 6! I didn\'t notice the next 20 button lol Roughly thirty in the last month lol

Well...using the same parameters of the search, I came up with 40 for you also.

But, let me clarify....I\'m only counting how many one has posted in the DISCUSS SUBMISSIONS forum. Its not really a scientific anything. My point being, ultimately, that active members of the forum get more comments.

As I stated earlier I was just as guilty as anyone else if not more so.I drive a truck for a living and I am gone roughly 80 to 120 hours a week just to make a living for my family (only one income coming in).I will try to do a better job in the future though I dont know how much help I will be.And how do you do a search peramiters anyway? By the way for those interested I have not posted my latest works in the galleries as of yet only in the forums.DD:cool:

Well first thank you all for responding.Second for those talking about post it in the wip or discuss submission sections I had already done that I dont cruise the galleries as much as I should so I\"m not looking for feedback there as many would expect.I read these forums and listen to what others say so I may learn better ways or techniques to paint. But after several days of no comments on my wip (Bull Ogres) to be exact I began this rant hoping to get other peoples attention to a dilema or pattern I have seen on many c-moners post .It is frustrating to say the least to see hundreds of views on a post and only a handful of comments.I being as busy as I am am guilty of this also just hadnt noticed until now.DD

you know dd i took to heart what you are saying. i have an army that i am feeling so happy about and my tau are really starting to come together but i havent gotten as many comments as others. at first i was upset and thought i just needed more pictures and people would start commenting. i dont necessarily think that is it. its actually a lot of things.

1. how much time you spend on here and talking to others.
2. the level of your painting and how its changed.
3. the popularity of the miniature and use of conversion work.

i am sure there are tons more which i am sure many will point out. but the thing is that all of these factors come into being. as for me i know i have people looking at my wip, i have over 2,000 views. this makes me feel better and possibly at the moment there is nothing that is eye catching about your ogres. if over time we start to see more of a cohesiveness to the wip more people will begin to follow it. dont feel bad that people dont always comment, its just that when you see something over and over, you become desensitized and that much can be said for looking at another persons tau, dark angels, or ogres. unless it really *pops* most people wont give it a second glance. i read your wip and thought gee those are nice but i dont see much else yet, lets see what else he does.
i dont intend this post to be mean, i offer some advice from a friend to a friend. i hope this helps in some way. and remember there is always a bar stool o\'er at the freak bar.

cheers  uber

How is anyone going to improve on their painting skills when the members of this site just ignore anyone who they dont consider up to professional level.

Find some painters you like, then contact them. Chances are they are more than willing to not only share their tips and tricks, but also critique your gear to help push you forward.

Give it a shot. And if they don\'t answer, f**k \'em. Contact the next person on your list.

Again, my point wasn\'t to guilt anyone into \'being a better forum member\'. It\'s simply that you get only what you put into this site.

As far as the search parameters, I just clicked the SEARCH button (top left of the forums) Left the topic blank, input a username, chose which forum to look into (discuss submissions) and then chose what time frame to look (I chose 1 month)

And for the record... one post offering someone else detailed critique is worth a dozen where you only add, \"Nice colours!\" I\'m just saying, that\'s all.

Myself, I read posts in the Discuss Submissions folder, but I don\'t comment unless I have something useful to add or something about the mini really strikes me. I suspect there are a lot of folks who do the same.

Otherwise, what Ritual and others have said here I can only echo.

This is my third attempt at posting here but I am determined!
I miss the one multi person wip( before this new section devoted to wip)
... any one know if it is a problem to start a single thread???

It brought more of a sense of community to me and many diverse comments a bunch individual names joined to improve together not so alone
Many painters learned the really masterful painters were just regular peeps and became more involved with the process. I loved watching Eric and tony and ...and
I enjoyed going through and seeing all sorts of good things going on in one place....
I hardly post general comments since it has gone , I do not know the temperament of many of the new people and do not feel confident enough for the input process.
Can I and see if others feel the same or was there a reason as far as band width etc I am not aware of?

I came up with 40 also.
That seems odd that we all have exactly the same number.

(oh, and about 25% were on my own submission threads)

Or that\'s the max number of posts that the search will return. :D

It must have something to do with that, but I have seen other searches with PAGES of results....I dunno.

But, I do slightly disagree with you Earkham...sometimes telling someone \"great job\" or \"nice color\" goes way beyond the actual words. Granted a detailed critique is very nice, but just to have someone look at your submission, and acknowledge the fact can be a boost to want to do more.
