Pureblood Warpwolf - Privateer Press Hordes

I managed to get this guy in a trade, and unfortunately some of his shoulder spikes are missing, so those will have to be resculpted. Aside from that, I plan to do some more washes and highlights, but thought I'd post here to see if anyone had other suggestions. Right now I know I'm not the best painter in the world, but I like to think that at this point, the Warpwolf is a pretty acceptable tabletop standard.

I am inclined to agree with Trystan, it would benefit greatly from some washes, especially the white skin. But according to GW and most of the gamers at my LGS, it is acceptable tabletop. A bit more work and it would easily be above tabletop.

Tabletop? Well, it's got 3 colours & is based, so yes, but that's not aiming high enough! ;) I just listened to the Bad Dice Podcast #61 about Tournament Painting Scores, interesting stuff to get the gamers point of view as we're rather spoiled here at CMON for lovely paintwork :).

To get full points you'd need either a highlight or shading on the flesh. Claws are painted but I think nose & eyes would have to be clearly done too. The rest that I can remember is to do with consistency & theme across the army which obviously doesn't apply here.

While on the one hand it's a lazy default, I'd still be tempted to blast the entire thing with GW Devlan Mud (not the Army Painter dip, why go through the hassle of the gloss?). Then go back in & highlight using the basecoat colours (probably 75% surface of the mini highlighted, not just the tips of bits). Then put in any detail colour such as eyes, nose, claw final highlights, spikes on tail, shoulder metals. That's now a nice TT figure, anything extra is prettyfieing :)

Clean distinct colour on the leather thongs that the chest amulets are hanging off, clearly define the runes on the amulets, spot highlight gold metal with a gold/silver mix, Gentle, light drybrush highlight over the fur with off white but only on areas predominantly facing upwards. Is there any tongue in that mouth to drop a touch of pink onto? Wash & drybrush the static grass, shade the sides/underside of the rock. Either glue individual grains of basing sand around his feet/hands to help give the sense of him being weightily resting on terrain rather than a rigid model glued to a base, or cunningly overshade around him & up a couple of mm to blend him in :D Is that a skull on the back of the base? Needs painting.

Just realised I've typed all this without checking your Gallery. Oh well :) Just some thoughts.

And welcome to the WIPpy bit of the Forum :good:

Cheers, B.

Hah, thanks for the help guys. :) BIP, your post was certainly a wake-up call - I knew there more I could do, but didn't realize there were *that* many possibilities for improvement. No worries about not checking in to my Gallery first, since I haven't actually had a chance to put anything in there yet. Definitely appreciate the feedback, though!
