Question about GDUK 2009

So... Can anyone provide me a beginners\' primer to Golden Demon? I\'m interested in entering GDUK this year (yes, I know! Don\'t faint!), but I\'ve realised that I know absolutely nothing about how one does this (just turn up?), what the rules are (although I have the impression that they\'re made up on the day, from what I\'ve read here), categories (it\'s all about the base size, right?), and so on.

My goal is to take along some minis that have been painted to the best of my ability and run the gauntlet. They\'re likely to be Fantasy and LOTR. I\'m mainly using it as a reaon to paint the High Elves I got from my sister\'s boyfriend! lol

Thanks in advance!

You can just turn up on the day as there are usually a few tickets left. BUT there is no guarentee, your best bet is to buy them online weeks in advance.
The rules are (where up on GW\'s sitegood luck navigating to it) but Basically they are Each entry must be your OWN work and not a shared project. All GW\'s product or sculpted to reflect GW\'s IP. Scenic bases are allowed but the figure should be removable (as for Game Play so it needs to be in the right base) and cannot be bigger than 30x30x30cm.

You\'ll need to stock up on Patience, Tolerance and something to make smelly teenagers disappear (although Last year wasn\'t to bad.) lol
There are lots of tips about packing your figures for safe transport. Avoid Tissue paper and Cotton Wool like the plague. tissue can rub paint of minis and cotton wool stick to everything.

there are lots of other \"Survival tips\" but you\'re welcom to Pm for them.

Way closer... Way easier... and in german...
It did cross my mind actually. I suppose I could go to both if they\'re not on the same day or anything. Unfortunately, I may live in Germany but my German is made of lose and fail. If the language barrier can be overcome, though, it\'s a good idea.

Good tips, thanks! I must say, the new GW site is a bit of a bugger to navigate. I think I\'ve found some of their official guidelines, so I\'m going to sit and have a read. I suspect that their survival guide does not mention teenage male B.O.

yes us teeenagers have a large presence in the uk gd. and if it will be anything like lastyear, dont be surprised by the sheer number of costumes on display. also, the golden demon setup is not as aweinspiring as its thought to be. you will need an entry form, off the net or in the back of the wd just before the gd. some people on the door ask you what your painting, your write it down twice on a card, the give to the people on the correct stand for your entry, who say \"cool\" no matter what it is or how well painting, and they take half of the card, and you keep half. look after this card as you would your very soul, without it you cant get your min back.and wait. then if your lucky, you can wait again.
as for the gd itself, its fun but not to my mind quite worth the price its charged, but apprently thats the cheapest gw can do it for, so i cant complain. talk to the em team! there very nice and will answer any questions you have, chechk out all the stands, but i personnalky stay away from the masive gaming bit, but it can be cool to go there for the sheer spectacle.

in short, get your mini there intact, give it to em, and have fun!

Thanks Hestan! Fortunately, as a female gamer I\'ve kind of learnt what to expect now from Essen Spielfest and many, many trips to gaming shops. And in all fairness, the teenages were NOT the worst. Mostly, I want to go for the experience- I\'m a big fan of experiences, and I\'ll try anything once!

Anyway, what\'s this \"soul\" thing you mention? ???

ive only been once, most of what i say is my personal opinion, preferences and superstitions. one thing that does irk me is that it says in the rules\"unsuitable models will be moved to the correct categories\" they will not. they will be queitly put on side and ignored for judging, so be sure to put yours where theres no dispute as to its being there
