Question about positioning a Gundam kit

Went to my LHS yesterday with the intention of buying one of the Dragon models Iron Man kits... only to discover they were charging a lot more than the prices I found online. This place has started stocking a lot more Gundam lately and one kit in particular caught my eye: You can see the kit here

I've only ever built 1 other Gundam kit before, and that was like 15 years ago. So I'm very out of touch with that side of the modeling hobby.

The idea I have in mind for this guy was inspired by the solid rocket boosters that come with the kit. I want to paitn him up to look like the space shuttle after reentry. What I mean by this is some weathering on the white and black to look like heat damage and soot that results from the heat of reentry.

The other half of my idea is that I want to pose him with a foot on a big rock jutting out from water and sculpt the water so it looks like it's being blown back by his rockets. I just don't know how I can secure him to the rock by a single foot. Anyone familiar enough with Gundam ktis to provide any advice? I want to be able to remove him from the base for transport.

Pinning,... drill a hole down into the rock, and another hole up into his leg through the bottom of the foot. Then use a metal rod, piece of wire coat hanger, or even a straightened paper clip,.. and glue one end up into his leg and the other down into the rock. If it's rigid enough,(and goes into the model and base far enough) it should be able to support the models weight, even though it's only touching at a single point of contact

Rare earth magnets might also be an option. Drill and affix a magnet into the rock. Drill and affix a magnet into the foot (ensure poles are correct so the magnets attract each other!) and that should hold it.
