Question about Vallejo\'s

I have just started to use Vallejo paints instead of the GW paints to see the difference.

One thing I noticed is that after shaking the Vallejos for a bit the paint still comes out quite watery and will often need two or three coats to cover just a plain white area.

Is this the paint or am I not shaking it /enough/? Are the paints more watery than GW and if thats the case do you still need to water them down a bit like the GW\'s.

Thanks for the help!

I\'ve been using Vallejo MODEL Colors for well over a year now and I\'ve found you have to shake the f*** out of them. Even then sometimes a mix on the palette as well. Some colors I do have to add a drop of water to but certainly not all.

Over the Spring I bought a couple of Coal Black in the GAME color line and these I don\'t have to so so much with - it\'s **very** thin but I do very little else with it - just a quick shake and a drop right out of the bottle.

Now if that\'s a different formula they use for those I really can\'t say but my own limited experience suggests you might be on to something.

But YES they are more watery than GW - I was told 3 years ago when I first started using GW that they were condensed so I\'ve always operated under that assumption and am always adding water to the palette when I use them with little to no problem. But I think the intent with Vallejo is that you shouldn\'t hav to add anything.

What Vallejo range are you referring to? Game or Model?

All the twelve Vallejos I currently have are from the model range.

It is quite a change, trying to get back into a routine of not adding drops of water to colours on the pallette.

Is there a difference in consistency & quality between game and model range?

in my experience....

I think you need to shake them some more.

Also, I tooks some little plastic beads and (after popping off the eye dropper lid) inserted it into the bottle as an agitator.

Yup - if you\'re using Model range then shake them up more. They require it more than any other paint I\'ve ever used. An agitator of some kind as Supervike suggested is excellent!

I only own one color in the Game range and that one is very different (in consistency) than the same color in the Model range. By induction only, will I hazard that they are different ... a jillion people can confirm or deny that aspect of it ...

It\'s not just Vallejos...

A little while ago I was using paints from the Andrea range. They come in exactly the same bottles as Vallejo, but I understand the content is different. They needed the F shaking out of them as well.
I always add an agitator. I just use a piece of lead/pewter sprue (I save all my clippings for this purpose). I have also invested in one of those Robart paint shaking machines. Despite initially appearing a bit flimsy, they really do the job. 3-5 seconds in one of those babies and all is well. The only problem I have with the damn machine is that my wife has now discovered that it will re-vitalise all her old nail varnishes (which for some strange reason she was hoarding). So when I next come to use the sodding thing it will no doubt be completely sh*gged out:D

but not THAT Dr. Bob
I put some lead fishing sinkers into some of my bottles, but I\'m not sure they make much difference. Lately I\'ve been lazy and haven\'t added them to my recent Vallejo acquisitions.

What I have \"invented\" is a special way to shake my bottles. When I used to shake a single bottle there I used to bounce up and down (telling how vigorously you need to shake these things). Now I put a bottle in each hand and alternate up and down (very rapidly). Not only is this more balanced and stable, but it also provides an excellent aerobic work out and entertains my wife to no end.

The current Mrs Bob should consider herself very fortunate to have such an entertaining (insane, but entertaining) spouse:D
