Question for all you crazy people (non-mini-related)

@Aryanun: Thanks for all the info!! That\'s exactly what I was looking for. Now I\'ve just got to get cracking on the preparations...

P
We got married in June (in fact, my wedding dress is on ebay right now). Ebay and Costco were the major \'suppliers\' for our wedding. We had a potluck and told everyone to \'bring whatever they were best at making, their specialty\'. The food was FANTASTIC! We bought plates, cups, silverware and napkins at Costco, and ordered our flowers at Costco. I bought my dress on Ebay, my engagement ring on ebay, got ideas for our favors on ebay (ended up doing it myself though... we had little wild flower seed packets with our names, date, a verse and a little grape icon on the front on parchment paper. A little silk rose was hot glued on the front to cover up the staple.)
The cake topper was from ebay.
The music: we also burned our own. (word to the wise: check the CD\'s you are going to play on the CD player you are going to play them on. Some CD players have a hard time with some burned CD\'s. Our music guy couldn\'t get the first song on any of our CD\'s to play...)
Cake: we had three round cakes of the same size done with very little decoration... then we put them on three cake platters that were different sizes and put fresh flowers on the top. We also bought one Costco cake, decorated with white frosting and white roses. (They\'re small cake feeds 50).

Do you have a theme in mind?
I have tons of stuff left over and I\'m just starting to sell it on ebay both to get rid of it and to return some of the money we spent. We came under budget at $1996 when our budget was $2000.

Welcome, painted_family!!

More lovely info, thanks! We don\'t have a theme yet. That\'s the part I\'m having trouble with - that and the budget, and choosing a location and an officiant...

I\'m planning to have a gown made to resemble one from Lord of the Rings. My fiancee is wearing a pirate greatcoat, if he can find an appropriate shirt to go with it. That\'s about as far as we\'ve got yet! :D

Go to a fabric store and look in the pattern books under \"Costumes.\"

Also, using cheap cotton linen for the fabric of the shirt would work. I\'ve used old sheets to make shirts when I was in the SCA. A little lace around the sleeve and no one knows the difference.

Not so expensive

13,000 Euros, for a week. Get everyone to split it and have the vacation of a lifetime.

You can rent a smaller part too for even less.

I got married in a castle in Germany, and we had everyone stay the weekend. The entire weekend for 16 people, with all the food and a HUGE barbill was less than 12,000. (no flights included)

congratulations!

I have a crazy idea for a themed wedding: since you have only about 35 guests, you could give each of them a painted miniature as a small gesture, which would resemble the person. If you have the time to look for minil looking like your guests and the patience to paint them :)

One more thing you could probably do -- play around with rings. You still have time to find something unusual, perhaps, a LoTR themed bands (since you\'re going for a LoTR dress). Me and my husband had our rings custom-made by a jeweller who used my sketches of the pattern, and it feels really sweet to know that noone else in the whole world wears a ring like that.

Aryanun, I have to admit, I was stunned by the way you arranged your wedding. I remember planning ours -- it was completely crazy, but fun. Still, i can\'t remember a single thing that we\'d do ourselves: even my makeup and hairdo were done by a pro :)

Ah, I wish I could afford to go to Europe and wed in a castle.

I also wish I could afford to buy minis for every guest, and limit the guest list to people who would appreciate it. ;)

Actually, I wish I could win the lottery so I could do everything everyone has suggested so far!! :D

wedding on the cheap:

Invite only the blood relatives who can drive there in under 2 hrs. Be good buddies with the officiating party. Stouffers Lasagna catering. Three Lasagnas @ $12 each. Everybodys stuffed for under $40 when you include leftovers and sparkling cider.

I would advise against inviting your future father-in-law the night before like I did but it does make for an adventure - \"We\'re getting married tomorrow night. You can come if you are going to be supportive.\"

Worked out great for us but me best man wanted to come armed just in case.
