Question on silver metallics

Quick question for all you metallic fans out there. I have a little guy I am doing some silver \"filigree\" on. I have VMC silver as the base color. What do you use for the shade and highlight? The stand black wash just didn\'t seem right--I am looking for a bright silver as opposed to steel. I was thinking VMC natural steel to shade and then adding a bit of white to the silver to highlight. Yay or nay?

I would use something like oily steel to shade and a mithril and white or something like that to highlight.

Black wash would still work well to shade and blackline, just keeping them thin as glazes and then build up to a nice level. You could also try blue to wash with instead

I would also use blue. It defines that depeer parts and yet gives a nice shine to the metal.

i only know GW so if u know the VMC equilivilant this may help lol....

chain mail and silver also work good on gold!

Metallics can be quite tricky, and the problem, i feel, stems from the fact that all the metal colours of GW\'s line are quite similar to each other, so you have to tone the base colour down quite a bit in order to get the contrast with the lightest colour.

What i do is apply Chainmail to the area, then thin down some black ink with water, and give the area a quick wash with that and then i apply the Mithril silver to the edges for the highlights. It\'s definatly not the bast way but i find it gives a nice result.

For extreme highlighting of silver, I\'d probably go for vallejo Metallic medium. Painted on, as the final highlight. It\'s semi transparent, so you may have to do a little work with it, but it\'s basically a metallic titanium white.
