Quorthon - RIP

This will probably be of interest to far fewer people than the other deaths that have occurred recently, but for my fellow extreme metal enthusiasts:

Thomas Forsberg (Quorthon) of the legendary Bathory has passed away due to heart failure at 39. Having been a fan of his music for around 20 years, I was given immeasurable enjoyment from his musical creations and am saddened by the loss of one of the founders of a musical genre that means so much to me.

\"Flames, your pyre, reaching high in the night
Sound the horn of bronze, it is time
Goddess of warriors to call\"

I haven\'t heard too much of Bathory so I can hardly say I\'m a fan, though I do own the rather amazing Blood Fire Death album (on LP picture disc!). However, it\'s still a shame to hear of the untimely death (of a musician who\'s held in high regard by black metal fans. Maybe now it\'ll spark a revival of interest in Bathory and the albums might become a little easier to come by again?! Hope so.

Blood Fire Death is my favorite Bathory album, and at the time of its release was innovative and it is considered one of those albums that forever changes a genre.

Just found a couple of CD versions on Ebay that could be tempting (if I can find the money). Love the album cover! And that intro track... incredible.
