sad to say we have lost another great actor Darren McGavin 1922-2006 probably best known for his portrayal of Kolchak the bumbling reporter in 70\'s tv series \"The Night Stalker\"..also one of my fondest memories was him as the father in :a Christmas Story he will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.:(

I never saw \"the Night Stalker\" but it was apparently the inspiration for one of my favorite shows - \"The X-Files\". I should see if there are DVD\'s of it out there.

Well that makes three.

It make me sad to see all of these people I watch as a kid pass. It also reminds me of my own mortality.

Kolchak was great! Saw it in the first run, loved every episode. If I say,\"Paramafee\'s gonna getcha!\" my older sister still jumps!lol

Sorry Darren McGavin is gone. Many years ago, the father of my older sister\'s best friend sat beside Mr. McGavin at an airport bar. *The father stated that McGavin was a friendly and personable man.... as should we all be.:)

nsa he even appeared in the x-files and yes there is a full legth dvd with all the episodes..both seasons..Marineboy for me what made his Kolchak character so good was he never went in with more then his knowledge of Chicago, his slick wit and his camera..no guns..allthough the episode he fought the rakshasa he had a crossbow..if you guys like x-files this old series is for sure a must have not techy by todays standards but a for sure fun watch..:)

That show used to scare the bejesus out of me when I was a kid. I remeber one episode where some hands came out of the storm drain and grabbed people and pulled them in. I still won\'t walk near a storm drain at night.

Darren McGavin also made two appearances on The X-Files.

Three in one weekend. RIP, Darren McGavin, Don Knotts and Dennis Weaver. All the familiar faces of my childhood are going. :(

Tough week on the D\'s, and I agree about some of the old episodes given you the willies. I saw the one where he had to fill the zombies mouth with salt and then sew it shut and it came to life when he was doing it. Nearly scared the salt out of me.

Sad losses. All three.

This is sad but he had a good run.

Kolchak: The Night Stalker was great, sure scared the bejesus out of me when I was younger. The later series was but a mere shadow of it, didn\'t deserve to survive.
