Rackham and Warmachine sculptors

P
Hi,
the names of Rackham\'s sculptors (as well as those of their mighty painters) is not so secret... not anymore at least ;) )
You can find a complete list of them in the first pages of the rackham catalogue (2004 or 2005)... all french guys, and I guess they work inside the studio.
One of my favourite is Benoit Cosse who is the genial maker of most of the mid-nors, goblins and orcs!!!

About Cyril I know he is a former rackham painter, not a sculptor.

That\'s all I know!

Origineel geplaatst door kow-lownwell, sorry, not in the topic at all... i often heard Rackham minis were \"team made\" there\'s a sculptor for robes, one for anatomy, one for armors... how does it work? well i dunno really...
Who told you that?
It was described in an issue of Backstab and unless there have been drastic changes in working method there is only one sculptor per figure. The team is designer, sculptor, caster and painter. They all come together during the design phase so they can optimise it before sculpting. There is no other \"secret\" to what Rackham does apart from having excellent designers, sculptors, etc and marketing.

@Minimaker: well, cyril was a rackham sculptor? Cyril Abati? never told me ???:(
Edit: Just checked. Here is his 1listsculpting intro message: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/1listSculpting/message/14443 So, he did sculpt for Rackham.

@Poupee, thanks for pointing to the catalogue (totally forgot that). Now let\'s hope they will add them to the pictures some time so we can see who did what. From the 2004 list: Michaël Bigaud, Benoît Cosse, Yannick Fusier, Yannick Hennebo, Alexandre Marks, Nicolas N\'Guyen, Nicolas Normand, Stéphane Simon. Any updates?

Michaël Bigaud, ( lead sculptor and bloody fantastic too) Benoît Cosse, ( as previously mentioned responsable for a lot of the wolfen, orc\'s, mid-nor) Yannick Fusier, Yannick Hennebo,(both gone) Alexandre Marks,(?) Nicolas N\'Guyen, Nicolas Normand, ( worked on the lions box amongst other things) Stéphane Simon.(bloody fantastic sculptor, likes the cure too)

jean-micheal ........ (sorry) is the straight edge guy.

also a gentleman named albert :)

rackham figures are done in house, only two people that I know of have been allowed to work from home.

The figure is done start to finish by one person.

rackham do not accept submissions. all figures are previously concepted.

hope this helps :)

Thanks for all the help and links.. :) This has become a very interesting thread.

When it comes to not giving away names on who sculpted who. I think that it could give a boost of the miniature-designers wages if they have proper credit for what they do. And I for one think that they do deserve it. There are other sides of the medal too.. like the ridicule that some well-known GW sculptors get. But I think it still would be for the best of the sculptors. Any other opinions?

For the best of sculptors perhaps but where is the interest for companies? In addition ,if it is for creating kinda \"star system\" with poor silly fans not looking at the minis but only at the name on the blister then I\'m not sure to agree...Tho I can see it as an advantage for sculptors who \"succeed\" and I know some take it!lol

The interest of the company. Do you mean the interest of those who run the company, or those working in the company? I doubt the company will generate less money, and thus it is only a question of distributing the profit.

There are \"poor silly fans\" to GW, Rackham and other things concerning this hobby, like paints and brushes. That is unavoidable. That is however not the goal. The goal is to give proper credit to the achievments of the sculptors, and thus raising their importance in the hobby. The result should be that their work is taken even more seriosly, and higher wages for those employed as sculptors. Another thing would be to form a \"sculpters union\" to raise the general wage and working conditions of the sculptors, but that is perhaps not a realistic alternative.

But is that even necessary? I have no idea really what status the miniature designers have and wages and such. I just get the feeling that they are in some or most cases, under-paid.

I see your point and just took the oportunity to badmouth fans cause we have a lot here.;) I also meant that \"stars\" aren\'t useful for companies when they have real \"lines of minis\" and projects to develop them.
Also,I\'m not sure the fact people know who sculpted what will help form a \"syndicate\" or a useful association of sculptors.I think it is totally different but \"stars\" could help yes...If they were just caring a bit about others...But as you can read it in a lot of interviews: all is perfect in the mini industry and none of them has to complain about anything (very weird considering most met crooks or bitches in the business but they either forgotten or forgiven).
Really,my opinion is that \"mini stars\" dont care about other sculptors when they aren\'t worrying about the competition.Once they get their money,it\' s ok...Chacun pour sa peau as the french saying tells.;)
Otherwise,I\'m all for your idea of \"sculptors society\" at least to make them aware of what happens (rates,\"rights\"...).
We could start asking the sculptors and painters here who to avoid among CMONers...I mean these so-called \"companies\" which recruit without any money or viable project...That could be very useful I think...

I prefer to see the names listed with the sculpts like Reaper does. We asked about it over at 1listsculpting. It made it easier for us to ask questions on sculpts to the right person and the site could be used as a portfolio. The later is quite handy for the Reaper sculptors since most if not all of them are freelancers. This is of course less important for in-house sculptors (unless they go freelance) but even they will like the recognition.

As to payment, well, this thread can shed some light: http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=40436
I\'m not sure what the future will be. As Tom Meier says, the rates have not changed since the 90\'s while costs of living, etc. have. On the other hand, if sculptors rate increase, will the public be willing to pay for that?

well here`s the list of sculptors that I think made minis for PrivateerPress: Mike McVey, Jerzy Montwill, Colin Dixon (not sure about him), Christian Danckworth, Kevin White, Paul Muller, Will Hannah, Chaz Elliot, Roy Eastland.

Add Bobby Jackson and John Winters to the list.

Niether Werner Klocke or Steve Buddle have sculpted for PP.

Jose Roig can now be added to the list. And don\'t forget Jertz!
