Rackham Confrontation miniatures + inflated prices = collector\'s items?

About a week ago a Dragon Titan of Aarklash sold for $385 on Ebay; just today a Molochs box sold for $207; a couple weeks ago an Orc Clan Trackers box sold for $125 (although a box, with Grakkha added, just sold for $54 yesterday...don\'t know why so cheaply, but it might be because the seller didn\'t have it in the title, just \"Cheap Confrontation Miniatures\").

Now there are still tons of Rackham Confrontation miniatures on Ebay and a few other places (Ludikbazar.com, and of course Bartertown), but it gets me wondering: Considering that these are no longer being produced but will probably always remain popular with at least a small segment of the gaming population, are Rackham minis essentially collector\'s items?

I just look at my collection of Rackham minis--about $2-3,000 worth--and wonder if I\'m sitting on a small goldmine that could mature into double that value or more. I like my Molochs and just love the Dragon Titan, but I have to say that if I could get $500-600 for them both I\'d be awfully tempted to do so (or at least the Molochs, which I\'m not as crazy about; however, they are already assembled with green stuff, which drops the value considerably).

So the question is, will the value of Rackham Confrontation miniatures continue to rise? In a sense, how could they not, as there has to be a limited quantity available? There will always be trading, but eventually the supply has to run out or at least dwindle considerably (except for the less popular and more common, like Goblins and Sessairs...but that is already happening), and then....well, how much could someone possibly pay for a miniature? I can\'t but think that those prices above for the Molochs and Dragon Titan represent a maximum, or close to maximum of what a human being would spend for a miniature figure: $385 for a plastic toy model of a dragon? Are you kidding me?!

It may just be that more and more Confrontation miniatures increase in value so that the uncommon and rare figures take on values at least twice their original price tag.

What do you think?

I think that yes, these can now be considered collector\'s items. What validates this most I think is even looking passed the fact that they are no longer in production, is the amount of money being paid for these. I doubt anyone who still plays Confrontation is willing ti blow that much on what to most gamers are just nicely detailed \"game pieces.\"

So when it comes down to it people willing to pay that much for them are people like most of us here, who are passionate about great looking miniatures and want to get their hands on some before they become too rare to find or even more expensive.

I would also argue that some of it may also be people anticipating that a couple of years down the line these will be worth even more and so are so to speak \"stockpiling\" now to try and make a profit further down the line. (At least I know I would be if I had a couple of thousand bucks laying around.)

\"I just look at my collection of Rackham minis--about $2-3,000 worth--and wonder if I\'m sitting on a small goldmine that could mature into double that value or more.\" - I think you would be able to make a nice profit off of what you have. I say another few months or so, maybe even as early as Christmas, and you may be able to make double of what you spent on them.

Just spent £80 including p&p for about £200 worth of confrontation and cadwallon miniatures from a french store who bought rackhams stock.

I guess for people who buy off ebay and dont know the sources they could still be classed as collectors items.

same here. Shop is http://www.ludikbazar.com .

It\'s insane there. Conf blisters for 2-5 euros, boxes for 10-15.
On this wednesday I bought about 700-800 euros worth of conf minis for 150.
3 weirdest price there:
- S\'erum novel+exclusive mini for 6 euro
- 45 Rackham paints for 42 euro
- Hybrid+Nemesis box for 30 euro (original price was 120)
Ohh and if you have ordered from them, you get another 5-10% discount based on the money spent there. So I\'ve seen R blisters with 3 figures for 2.7 euro (cheaper than a GW paintpot)

Admittedly as the Titan-dragon and molochs are unavailable, but what\'s there is dirt-cheap.

as for OOP conf minis. As soon as they are not available in shops their prices will surely rise and become collector\'s items. Mostly because of the excellent sculpts they had before C4. Most of the 2002-2005 sculpts(\'from the golden era\' imho :), ) will be wanted by painters because how they look, so yes, you may be sitting on a gold mine :D

With luck even then some of the rarer could be gotten cheaply even now. From LGS-s that have unsold stock and don\'t know the rarity and value of the figures
or from ebay-sellers who don\'t know what they have and doesn\'t write the \'proper\' descriptions (I saw molochs for 10+10 euros, they were listed simply as mini-figures (managed to get one, the other was won by someone else :| ))

I think you\'ll find that some will be valuable for a while, but eventually they will probably decline in price as demand wanes.

Well I managed to strike gold a little while ago, as I traded my rather horrible Tarascus for the Titan Dragon :)
I currently have 2 boxes of Moloch\'s, and my sell one soon.

I am only now after 2 things of R stuff, the almost now mystic box Clan Wolfen and the Wolfen Prowler. My only fear is having all these minis and never painting them.

Oh and BTW I do play C3 nearly every week, and would pay for the pieces if I wanted them.

But it does beg the question, could I buy a house with my Rackham collection

:D
