Here\'s the WIP of the Confrontation Darkness Elemental.

http://www.coolminiornot.com/56281

I was tryng to make something different for the base so I have cut a hole in the original one and glued it on a piece of plastcard.
Then I have added some green stuff and replicated the waves and the worms of the original base in order to leave an hole that I can fill with resin to simulate a pool of dark water.

I was trying to find the right colors to paint it, the black primer is a must but I dont want to use greys for the highlights.
I was thinking to use a dark brown , something like the card supplied with the miniature:

Any suggestion?

That\'s cool....

I like the dark brown idea. Then, as on the card, highlighting with a reddish brown.

Kind of like the \"sepia\" setting some video cameras have. It would give him a very \"antique\" feel, which would be very unusual, but someone with your talent may be able to pull it off.

There is a risk of being too boring, but it could also come across as very moody and creepy feel.

Good luck on whatever you decide!!!

looks really cool! that hole could be a light source!

BTW can I borrow your idea of cut out bases? I really like the way it looks and I didn\'t want to out right steal the idea.

I\'m really torn between your idea of using the hole as a pool of dark water and Smoth\'s idea of using it as a light source. Both sound really cool, as does the concept of a \"sepia\" color scheme. I guess, that since it\'s a \"darkness\" elemental, the water idea would win out, but even \"darkness\" must have some kind of light source if we are going to see it, right? And gentle source lighting from the bottom would add to the eeriness I think.

Or you could go really over the top and do both ! Fill the hole with clear resin mixed with some amount of dark medium (would inks work ?) and place a small LED underneath : voilà, instant light effect. Place the whole thing in a non-permanent way atop a larger base, like those wooden display things in order to hide the light and the wiring/battery, and you\'ve got yourself a stunning piece.

It\'d probably be crazy work, though, but damn, would it look cool !

Supervike: I like the \"sepia\" palette... I have to admit that I was thinking to something different but this one seems better. Thank you! :)

Smoth: another wonderful idea... I was just looking for a good excuse for painting the first miniature with light source effect.
I have \"borrowed\" the cut out base from an historical miniature so use it as fast as you can ;)
BTW I dont call it \"Borrow\" but \"Inspire\" :p

Dauber22: I really like the idea of a sepia palette and the light source, I just need to find the right color for the light source.
Probably green will be the best choice.

U4-Welcome: interesting idea... I have to dig in my spare pieces to see if I have a led.
Update: no leds :( I\'ll just paint it this time and keep the idea for another miiature (I can\'t wait)

Excellent!!

Yes, the Sepia tones with a sickly green light source emanating from the water.

That sounds awfully cool!

Hurry up and get that done, I am dying to see it!!!;);):Dlol

The cut out base is really cool. Even before I read it I had the same idea as U4 and now I\'m wondering which of my models would be fitting for such a lightshow base...mmmmh... feeling so \"inspired\" right now.
Looking forward to seeing the finished model!

Update

The Darkness elemental is painted and i\'m very happy for the result expecially because it was my first approach to the \"light source\" simulation.

Now I\'m wating for the resin, wen it become completely clear I will take a couple of pictures and add it to my gallery.

Then you can bash my ego and find all the mistakes ;o)
