Rackham Paint

Hi all,

It\'s been a while since i\'ve been here, but in the words of Take That (very topical!), I\'m \"Back for Good\"

My question is; has anyone tried the new Rackham paints that have recently hit the shelves?

I\'m tempted just to go all out and buy the full 50 set for about 80 quid, as everything else the produce is pretty awesome so i have no doubt that these will be too. But my better judgement has kicked in and i thought i\'d get some opinion first. So........

What do you reckon?

Cheers :D,

Dom

Without having tried these (I think they\'re being released about now...) I\'d say skip it unless you need 50 new paint pots! There\'s no way these paints are extremely much better than anything else! If you need new paints, however, it might be interesting (you get a nice mini in the set as well...). I have heard that Rackham\'s paints are made by Coat d\'arms, but I don\'t know if that\'s true or just a rumor.

those paints are an absolute crap, i tested it 2 hours, and that\'s that i get:

The paint is veray thick, and even if you thin it the result is granulous and chalky, it\'s like day and night if you compared it with citadel paint…Thepaint is hard to thin because it\'s a little greasy.
A few people tested it here( Bragon, and a few other good painters ), and everybody accorded to say it\'s not the paint of the century, believe me i know what i talk about. For me it\'s a 3 or 4 rating
:(

Whoa, those look really nasty!

Thank god i didnt order the starter set, would have been a miss investment. Thanks for those pictures cyril. I think i\'ll stay with Citadel, i tested some Model Color and didnt find those as good as Citadels.

You\'re implying that you\'d actually have used them? We want proof! :D

I think thats what his pictures are for.. proof that they are crap..

He\'s pokin\' fun at Finn17\'s lack of pictures or lack of finished figs to take pictures of...or something along those lines I\'m thinking.

There is an 8 page debate on Créafigs about these paints and some people didn\'t find them that bad. I haven\'t used them and don\'t plan to (I\'m happy with my Citadels), I\'m just stating that several people have tried them : some like them, others don\'t (the dilution threashhold is tricky, some people have found them grainy too). The important thing, like Cyril stated in that thread, is to find the paints that fit your style. After, who cares what brand they are from.

Well, it was more in reference to cyril being a painting god. :D But that\'s an interesting point, GS. I\'ve noticed that a lot of french painters paint only Rackham minis - just as GW have their fanboys, Rackham have their own iconoclastic fanboys. How many of them will use Rackham paints because of the label instead of their painting style? Or am I way off the mark here?

In France, we usually can only easily get our hands on : Citadel, Fenryl, Ilyad, Privateer Press, and Rackham minis. The other brands depend if the LGS likes them or not. Judging from the people on Créafigs, I thought the minis painted were fairly well distributed among the brands.

This is interesting, given what we can see in Cyril\'s excellent photos if opinions on Rackham paints vary as much as it appears they do it might point to them being highly variable - I doubt many mini painters would be happy with paint this rough as a rule!
