Raising painters

My daughter Allie (9 yrs old) has been harassing me about learning to paint minis. So I took advantage of a snow day yesterday and passed on what little I knew.
We created this:
Dire Rat
I couldnt get a good view of my first green sculpt (the starfish) but she loves it.

Now she wants to take this on as a more serious hobby, and take part in the childrens painting competitions at the local gaming store!

P.S. Does anybody recognize the maker of this mini? It came from my hubby who cant remember.

Thanks!

Cute.

I want to say its a Reaper but after looking through the reaper site I had to change my mind due to not finding it.

Good figure though, and one that I wouldn\'t mind coming across.

As for the paint job, fantastic. My daughter got into painting as well at 9 (now 10) and although we\'ve had to go with some of the simpler miniatures, she does a good job on them. I think they pick it up quicker than we do.

Let us know how her next one goes.

you know, I was probably well into my 20\'s, and had painted for a good few years before I got results like that. Tie a paint brush to that girls hands and don\'t let her stop, we\'ve found some real talent here! :D

Thanks! I\'ll let her know.
She was thrilled this morning to find I\'d posted her mini online.
I think this is awesome encouragement for her, now to buy her *own* set of brushes...

seriously tho, please do get her an account on here. i would love some more competition. considering she is past my level anyway it could only knock me down by one. :D

and she does seem to have the knack.

Thanks all,
She has seen the comments and is excited, she\'s also a little intimidated though.
She knows I wont help her with her next mini, and doesn\'t think she will live up to the standard of this one.
(Her skin isnt too thick yet)
I\'ve stressed to her that this forum is one of the best sources of constructive critisism I\'ve come across, that it will help her learn and get better with each attempt.

I\'ve set her up with her own account (Alleycat) but with my email so I can screen any messages. Would it be OK to put up the dire rat as a submission of hers even though it currently is listed as one of mine?

Back when I was a wee little artist what kept me going was keeping it fun. Encourage her in the direction of what interest\'s her. If she likes what she is doing the technicle stuff will follow.
