Other rants: Cyclers! Especially WANNABE Race Cyclers in their disgusting outfits. I nearly had a crash at 80km/h, because some of these race cyclers decided to take the road and not the (next to the road) bicyle way. They were behind a small hill and were driving next to eachother!!! Of course THEY cursed at me for nearly hitting them....

And a small one: Turning on my radio here at work and hearing a new remix of a great song. The original song was so totally destructed, there was nothing left of the spirit of the song, only bad singsang. I really would like to mix some of those DJs up like Evil Dave showed that Punk his place...

Back to the car seat thing a moment... The actual law here reads 9 years old or 4\'9\" tall. Not to many 9 year olds are 4\'9\" tall (I was but I was a freak in height as a kid, though still only made 6\'). The really fun part is ignoring the 9yr part and telling my mom (a 65 yr old lady) she needs to be in a car seat as she is only about 4\'7\".

As for these \"Big Brother\" laws as someone mentioned... Fact is I believe people should be able to make their own decisions as long as they arn\'t hurting someone else. A big part of the problem in the world today (violence, crime, vandalism, etc...) I blame on the world being to safe. Everything is so \'safe\' and regulated that the youths have to get their jollies off somehow so they find an alternate outlet. Mind you I do blame two other factors about as equally... Parents not raising their own children anymore (therefore strangers instilling values of \'the system\' on young children) and lax punishments in the legal system.

In Canada we have the young offenders act (big joke) where if you commit a crime under 18 you can\'t be tried as an adult, your name can\'t be posted, and your record gets wiped clean when you do become an adult), frig, if your not going to get punished they why the frig not do the crime. Oh yeah, also if your going to get close to the same punishment for fist fighting as for stabbing someone they why not stab someone (or even shoot them as the case may be).

Back to the \'Big Brother\' thing again... I\'m certainly more capable of making decisions in raising my family then the freaking government. We already know what kind of a fine job they do when in control.

OK, one last rant (one sure to draw flaming but oh-well, this is a rant after-all). What\'s up with all these people protesting war in Iraq and Afghanistan? So what if our governments really are just sending troops over to protect our oil supplies (or whatever other reason)? Certainly wars have been fought for much less over the years, and maintaining our way of life sounds like a pretty good reason to me to be at war not that I actually believe that this is the only or even prime reason we are there but even if it is... so?

Well, somehow I get your opinion on the Iraq thing. But there\'s one BIG mistake in your concern...Its not your oil...and its the way the war is done that makes me want to stop it.

Wars are always wrong. But I\'ve never seen someone turn the other cheek when slapped in the face. So Iraq is not first and last one we\'ll see...

Ooh, I thought of another rant while feeding the baby...

The other day I was down at a government office getting the birth certificates for my girls. The paperwork of course has a spot to fill in the child\'s mother and the other parental spot says \"Father or Other Parent\". WTF? What\'s this other parent crap? Last I checked it still takes a father and mother to make a baby, we don\'t spawn them yet. Another way to marginalize the parental role of the father.

Actually I\'m fairly sure \"Father or Other Parent\" is there for same-sex female couples (I heard something about this on the news months ago).

Not all men are disinterested in their children as they are often portrayed. :drunk:

which brings me to another peeve: Men who are disinterested in their kids.

Or let me broaden that: Men who have forgotten what it means to be a man at all. There\'s so much blurring of the lines and it\'s so en vogue to feminize men these days that it\'s getting hard to find men that still have a pair.

And I\'m not saying men need to walk around grunting or anything, but take care of your responsibilities and if you see someone in trouble, particularly if they are a woman or child - HELP. Don\'t just stand around with your thumb up your bum hoping someone else will come along or wash your hands of the situation and decide it\'s not your problem.

People how can work who just dont want to and then moan when hard working people come to our country and work and pay tax.

In my office block there\'s a job centre course place that people get taught how to find a job, the amnount of bull I hear from them is obscene. They could all work if they wanted to but they just dont want to, they then just moan about immigrant\'s coming and taking their jobs.

I know a lot of immigrant\'s who have come to the UK to work and they all work damn hard and pay their tax\'s, which is a lot more than can be said for some.

First peeve - getting logged out of CMON when moving between pages on CMON.

2nd - Lax enforcement of laws. Most of the discussion about illegal immigration in the US would be easily resolved if they started kicking all of the illegals out and then sat down to discuss resolving the issue. (especially if the they involved were Native Americans)

Media - Every newspaper in the US ran the headline announcing that 4000 US troops had died over the 5 years in the war. Last time I checked, this was a volunteer army. How many papers run the statistics about drunk drivers killed in a year in the US? And I know that at least some of the 12000 + killed are not \"volunteers\" but innocent bystanders. Where are the protesters on the corners about that?

Finally - politicians who do nothing but make promises and then when they come up for reelection, do everything in their power to come through on them. We have a governor who said years ago we needed new ferries and promised to due something about them but let the paperwork expire while it sat on her desk. Even after the ferry system had 2 boats get pulled from service, nothing happened. But now that it is time for reelection, repairing our failing ferry system is of utmost importance. I just watched Mr. Smith goes to Washington with Jimmy Stewart. Politicians make me mad.

Your complaint about men not taking responsibility is very valid, but is also true of many women now, too. It\'s a sad situation, but it seems as though a lot of folks are deciding not to take responsibility for their actions, and instead of taking the high road, they take the road that looks like more fun. I feel very lucky, as my husband and I have been married for almost 11 years, and we both work very hard to make sure that our five year old daughter and one year old son (just had his first birthday last week!) are raised to not only know the difference between right and wrong, but also to make decisions accordingly. Hubby is absolutely super at helping with the kids and around the house, and I always make sure I tell him how much I appreciate him!
