[rant] Cell Phones

I spent 3 hours last night discovering why J.D. Powers rates Cingular 2 out of 5 stars for customer service.

I have 4 cel phones in my house (two teenage daughters = lots of minutes).

I\'ve always had AT&T, but they became Cingular a while back. Kate\'s phone/contract started after the takeover. The other 3 phones are all on an old AT&T/Cingular bill.

With AT&T , I\'d always just called after a couple of years, told them I want a new phone. New phone, new & better contract, no problem.

I want 4 new phones, all on one bill and want to keep our existing numbers. Sounds simple? Razors V3\'s are free after rebate. One tech says that the razors are no longer offered (but they are on the website). Three hours and 3 different service techs later, and they all give up.

Sprint service areas are terrible.
Verison is just renting Sprint service.
Nextel just got sucked up by Sprint.
Anyone know anything about T-Mobile?

Having worked customer service for two, count them two Cell phone manufacturers, what I can tell you about Tmobile is that they suck harder than cingular, if that is possible.

Both the manufacturers I worked for had an agreement with Tmob where Tmob would replace the phone if there was an issue in the first 90 days - and frigging Tmob customer service kept sending customers to us for issues on new phones!! And to top it off, I lost count of the number of times I took calls from Tmob customers who had been transferred to us by Tmob customer service whose issue was no service - because they hadn\'t paid their freaking bills!

And People wonder why I looked upon coming to Iraq as an easier job.

There was supposed to be a service revolution going on when they decided you could take your phone number with you. It\'s apparently a pain in the butt for the company to do. I\'m just wondering how long ago this was. Things may have changed. Then again, some things never change.

Actually that works quite well. When I was home in November we ported my Girl\'s Cell number from her provider to mine. Worked fine, just had to pay off her old contract.

I read an article resently that indicated all Razor phones had been temporarily pulled from the market because of a default in some. That might be why you can\'t get the phone you want right now. It seems like the techs should know that though.

Seems I\'m not the only one that has trouble with Cingular nee AT&T. I\'m thinking it\'s time for a change. My wife has Verizon and at least in our area it seems to be better...

Any company that murders the English language by calling themselves \"Cingular\" deserves to be boycotted, in my opinion!

I have had Sprint for years with no problems.

I have been thinking of switching to Metro PCS because for 40$ a month you get unlimited minuets peak and off peak. Has anyone else used Metro PCS?

Don\'t ever look too closely at biotech or pharmaceutical companies then - their names are even stupider-sounding, although they try to sound \"techy\" or scientific.

Anyway, you will not catch me touching a cell phone until I can get one with NO contract, or a short-term contract at least, and a non-exorbitant pricing structure. Virgin is getting there but they are still very costly, though not quite as bad as the vile Rogers Pay-As-You-Go. I don\'t feel like getting fleeced by another telecom company, thank you very much. Stupid Bell is already squeezing me too much with my landline and DSL bills

I\'m annoyed with phones as I\'ve been to every shop in the city and the website of every company I can think of but I cannot find the phone Cloud has in Advent Children :flame:

I love my cell phone and my plan. I get my service through Cincinnati Bell..its bundeled with my home phone and internet.. its cheap.. great service its AT&T and lots of minutes.. calls to local Cincinnati Bell numbers are always free and best of all theire is NO contract..I dont like it I leave, they offer something newer and better I go in and they change my plan and upgrade me for free..Its wonderful. If I want a new phone they are always on sale.. upgrades are easy.

On the subject of Razers..I thought I herd yesterday they have been pulled off the market for some kind on problem with them dropping calls or explodeing..one of the two lol

* just jokeing on the explodeing:D

Actually, there has been an issue with some 3rd party batteries exploding in Asia.

Seems they just arent up to the same standard as those the manufacturer makes, and tend to explode after recharging. Of course, this is also a problem with Lithium Hydroxide Batteries in the long run, but you\'ve got to use them for years afore that happens.

I have a Virgin Mobile phone. I usually end up paying about $20 dollars a month on it. I prefer it over a contract phone because I dont use my phone consistantly and I might go a week or two barely using it, so i hate paying a phone bill for something i dont really use. So the virgin mobile works pretty well for me - pay as you go.
