Just got mine from the fedex lady yesterday. First impression: what a load of paint these things carry (size 0). Wow. These will definitely give my 7\'s a run for their money.

keep me posted was considering getting some... struggling to get comfortable with a brush make at the moment as I have been doing a lot of fast painting but looking for some nice brushes to do some seious pieces with..
I like the series 7\'s but there\'s something about them I don\'t know wether I\'m just unlucky a lately but they seem to be getting odd shaped ends very quickly...
got some davinci maestro\'s and gave them a good oad test and pretty plesed with them..
but any experience based info will be cool...

The quality control seems to have become lax the last few years at W&N. Their brushes are a bit hit and miss, it seems. When you get a good one, they\'re possibly the best on the market, but you can\'t expect to get a good one these days, it seems.
I have been trying out Rosemary & co for the last year and a half. I have a few sizes of their pure kolinsky, series 33, and they\'ve lasted through the entire period without any sign of deterioration. Good prices too. And, AFAIK, they are quite fussy with quality.

i totally agree on winsor and newton... some are great and others not soo much. in fact when i buy them nowadays i actually ask for a container of water and make sure they make a fine point before i buy one. two or three have ended up having split ends within two sittings. another i have had since november and is still perfect and holds paint like no other. and since i have to go 40 miles just to get some paintbrushes i like to know that ALL my brushes are in good condition.

they are slightly larger than W+N for the same size and as such can hold that little more paint.
they last longer in my hands as well which is a good thing as i\'m a brush wrecker (they just die no matter how good i treat them!)
imo 8404\'s are way better than W+N

I have 5 or 6 of both W&N and the Raphael\'s and I must say it\'s not even close, I use the Raphael\'s so much more.
I think it\'s probably a matter or personal preference though, down to how it \"feels\" to someone.

Way back we have this thread also.I think Escoda, Raphaël and daVinci are the brands to try as alternatives, although there are clearly others up there with the big boys (including Dick Blick\'s master series, which are made for them by one of the top makers so same brush, different label).
Prices are good on Dick Blick, here, if anyone\'s interested in trying something new and wants to buy online

Its official, I am using the 8404 size 0 for just about everything.

Personally I use W&N7 series miniature and standard and I find them to be very good. I think it really depends on your preference and feel of the brush.

Yup that is definitely true. I\'ve not had any problems though and I have to order mine online too so . . . meh. Just whatever works for you. Every painter is different and all of our needs are different too.

Raphaels are my next ones to try out definately. I have one W&N series 7 that is amazing.. one that is very good, but I have two others that are rubbish. I use two Da vincis almost with every paint session as well, but they are wearing out. Right now I\'m trying out Kapple series. They have good spring but the tip is not very good IMO.
