Rare Book Values

Anyone know of a website that notes approximate values for old possibly rare books (late 1800\'s to early 1900\'s)?

Preferably aimed at someone who doesn\'t know anything about the old/rare book market. IE, me.

And yes, I\'ve tried google, but not knowing anything about this subject, I can\'t effectively narrow down what I\'m looking for.

what\'s the book?

And believe it or not, sometimes Ebay is a good estimator. If it\'s a popular book, you may be able to figure that out. I worked for a used book dealer for a while in college, I\'ll try and remember what the resources where that he used.

Antique Road Show! Unfortunately, for every piece that\'s worth 20 gazillion dollars and gets on air, there are 20 gazillion appraisals that equate to a value \"between zero and five cents.\"

What I\'m researching is a closet full of old books, from my parents and grandparents. Mostly I just want to slowly sort through them a few at a time to see which ones will end up on eBay. <G>

Thanks, those two links should suit me quite well.

Doug\'s right about Ebay being a good estimator. Bibliofind and Alibris both will tell you a price that is still too high, plus they tell how rare they really are. (If there is only one listed here, it is probably rare. On Ebay, only one listed means only one in the last month.) What is it about? I have a 1911 book on curing Heart Disease and it never made it to a second printing.

Try looking at www.abebooks.com
It\'s a site used by dealers to sell but it has a really wide coverage across the world & if you find the books you have you can get an idea of what a dealer would ask for them & base your values from that.

Neil
