@Vidja - you seem a bit contradictory with the following:

Of course I know that the score is not the real point, but somehow I don\'t feel so optimistical... I mean, saying that a kid painted a mini to pump up its score

@Dauber #1)It\'s the camera I use here. Take a look at my pictures and leave a few comments to understand the quality of the camera in inexperienced hands. #2)I don\'t have any money so of course it\'s easier to spend yours. Besides - isn\'t that what the government is based on.

I see what you mean (sorry, English is not my first language and I do get all tangled up in sentences sometimes...)

What I meant is: there are people here who are interested in improving their technique, and see the score only as a mirror of how much they succeded in their effort. AND there are the competitors: those who just want to make it to the top positions, and will use any trick to do so (again, clever photo manipulation, stolen pics, cheating about their age or the number of years they\'ve been painting...)
Now, we - the \"learners\" - shake our heads sadly at the \"competitors\" and go on with our own business, but let\'s be honest - we\'re a little bit pissed off when we see that the cheaters among them are having it their way (thus, the frequent threads like, \"mini X is far better than mini Y, how comes that Y scores higher?\")
I hope it makes more sense this way...

heh...

Like anything in life...you skew to the Age. IQ and contest are skewed this way...you don\'t expect a 5 year old to have the same knowledge or skill as an adult. To expect this is assinine.

I gave this a score of an 8...probably disserves a 9 for the age. The paint lines where crisp. Color selection very well done.

I don\'t expect a 5 year old to paint to the same standards as an adult. As they get older my expectations of what they should be able to do grows higher.

I do vote on younger ages easier but it comes naturally- as a teacher it is unfair to mark a 5 year old at a 10 year olds standard or even a 30 year olds standard. By the same token if someone says it is the very first thing they painted I will give them a deserving mark- but I always explain that it is relative. Why? because I think that some people need the encouragement to stick with what is a very difficult (and some times demanding) hobby. Besides it always pissed me off when my crappy art teachers gave me a 6/10 cause they didnt like my art. Art is personal and if you know you put your heart into it then it is a 10 no matter what in some respects. That said- some people want an objective score- well I dont think that is possible- I mean people rate the worst looking Rackham paintjobs as 6-7 based on sculpt! Give a miniature a nice set of boobs and the score jumps 2 points! And the GW GD judges are all wacked some years! Half the time they award it to who spent the most money on GW bitz it seems.

Some things people take too seriously and I think this is one of them. Give the kid a 7 or 8. Provide the encoragement for the talent to develop.
