I really like Tre Manor's Red Box Games stuff. It's really tiny though in comparison to herois scale 28mm stuff. Lot's of fun. Painted for a comp over on WAMP which I will get CRUSHED in as the talent REALLY came out to shine over there! Some really good stuff from everyone giving it their all.

I am pretty happy with it, though of course their are problems galore. I had to re-do the battle damage on the shield and this is my second time even trying the painted on damaged look. Also this is my first ever scenic display base for a mini. I really like doing it! I for sure want to paint more mini's this way. But, it's my first attempt so probably a little rough. Any crit's, harsh ones welcome, would be great. TY Gang! After posting up that Han Solo mini (I am a little dissapointed in the mini. It looks better in the hand, but not by much) I liked going back and finishing this guy.

shield looks great! the base is nice as well although it does swallow him up somewhat. also it looks like two blocks of putty on top of one another? is it meant to be rock or clay soil?

The face is very basic in the paint job but overall you have a nice looking model. I gave a 7 because though overall nice is did lack some in depth.

It lacks a bit of contrast in some areas I think, cape and pants, but the shield is very nice and the leather armour on his chest I really like too! What is the grass you used on the base and how is it done? Looks awesome! The rocks doesn't really look to much like rocks to me though, more texture on the surface I think, just use a real rock and imprint the putty (if you even used putty, just assuming). I gave him a 7 and he looks ace ;-)

Thanks guys!

The putty is SUPPOSED to look like rock. I used standard milliput and then pressed a real rock into it a bunch after it had set for a couple hours like in the JBT video. Anyone got any tips I could use? 'Cause it still REALLY does look like two blobs of putty.

The grass tufts are from "Silfor" and they're a couple different sizes fo their buffalo grass series. Late summer and autumn are the ones I used, I think. It's an awesome product but even though they're suppsed to be self adhesive (LIES!) I use some zap-a-dap-of-goo II adhesive to put them on the base.

I agree about the comments of more contrast on the pants and cape. I think I worked the contrast in the cape up high enough in some areas (I am thinking the folds in the center of the back) but should have followed that pattern and added more in other areas. Good tips gang!

The comment about the face being basic. Any tips their? It IS painted pretty basic in that it's just tallarn flesh shaded down with black red and up with PP Menoth white highlight. A little purple and red glazed in there too, but nothing fancy. What sort of stuff should I look to be doing on my other mini's? It'd be great do be able to put the focus back on the face of my mini's, as I think that's something I am slipping away from.

I would say go a little darker on the faces for the recesses and that will work. Also on the eyes just use a paint on varnish as that will allow them to show out a little more. I would suggest a scar down one of the eyes as well to really bring it in. As per the rock my suggestion would be just make randon cuts on it or do what a lot of people like to do smooth it flat with the display plinth and paint it black on the sides facing out:).

Scott; I've looked at these picture in Photoshop and done some post production fiddling for my own curiosity.

Just as with what I did for Montka recently, this picture has only had Auto Levels applied and I believe it is closer to what I think the mini actually looks like.
Good work but agree with others about the base.

rock seems too regular to me esp the horizontal line bisecting it. just try and be more random. i jab at it a load at random with a rock and then blend the different bits back together a bit

Good points guys!

Mike- Yes! That's pretty close. I am going to upgrade my camera, photo software, and my photoshop knowledge here pretty quick. I really hope it helps make a difference!

Much appreciated!
