Real or trick photography?

A friend of mine e-mailed me this recently and to be honest I was blown away by what I saw. I lived out that day truly believing in magic and all that stuff.

I was telling my mate about it and he reckoned that this is just very good trick photography.

What do you guy\'s think?

Enjoy.

Pretty amazing!

Sure is.

To be honest, I kind of think that it\'s real.

How about the shop owners reaction? It\'s as though he\'s seen a ghost and is about to faint.

Real or unreal?

Amazing!

pretty amazing trick allright.
Send it to Penn and Teller and see if they can figure it out.

If it weren\'t a \"trick\" he could do it without the paper. (note how the trash just happened to have a sheet of clean white paper exactly the right size to cover the window crumpled up on top...)

David Blaine does a similar trick. I\'ve seen this guy Chris Angel before. They both do mind blowing illusions and slieight of hands things.

It is undoubtably a trick, but still \'effing\' amazing...

I am a non-believer when it comes to so called \"magic\". Most people are just illusionists, they use ways to trick you into seeing something some way.
Just like vince says it is just a trick.

This guy\'s (Chris Angel?) tricks are amazing the first time you view, but there\'s always a good explanation for how he does them. laurence, if it was real, why would he have the paper held in front of the glass? Why would the camera turn away from the glass for a \"short\" moment (we don\'t know how long it actually is!) to show the guy taking off his shoes? Nope, this is a simple trick as always. Moreover, the \"volunteers\" and \"spectators\" are always adepts. Several videos of his tricks (don\'t know about this one, haven\'t watched it more than once yet) show the audience behaving very unnormally or strangely, e.g. not watching the trick but looking around... These are all just small things, but many of those small things can perfectly hide the \"real\" trick.

i\'m pretty big into magic, more slight of hand these days but still magic. i\'d have to classify this one as having the audience in on it. There was one guy in particular who was REALLY over acting it.

That is a really nice illussion, and i have no idea how he pulled it off, but remember that at the end of the day thats all it is, an illusion, lots of little tricks were used in the filming of this, and it is blatently set up with the paper in the trash etc etc, i guarentee that it\'s something really really simple and once you know how it is done you will be like \"oh...ok\", like many many magic tricks i have seen in the past.

cool link though. :)

<cough> How could it not be a trick? It\'s not like a person can go through a sheet of glass is it? :D I\'d love to know how these kinds of illusions are done because they\'re amazing.

The comments are pretty insightful - the consensus seems to be that the pane of glass slides up, allowing him through, and back down again as soon as he is out. The paper conceals the edge moving up, the upper part of the window apepars motionless because it is highly polished clean glass - the reflections don\'t change.

Even Kitty Pryde could not phase through a window while simultaneously making her fingertips solid to poke through the paper ;)

I have a DVD on how to do some magic tricks. It\'s jawdropping to see how simple the \'trick\' to the trick is. What was mindblowing turned into - \'oh you gotta be kidding\'..........but the illusion does work. That one you posted is a gem though.

good illusion

Thanks for all of your responses. It\'s as clear as a pane of glass that this is just a trick that\'s done very darn well.

I\'m not too sure where my logic got to as a side of me wanted to believe it to be real. Very true.... no one can walk or climb though glass without breaking it and hurting themselves.

What\'s more, if this guy can climb through glass without breaking it why can\'t he climb through the paper as well without breaking it?

Very cool though.

Time to go to work.

Thanks d00ds!

I watched an episode of his show recently with Rob Zombie in it. Criss Angel was supposed to break out of a coffin and dig his way out of the ground. *chuckles* Anyway he did it but it was really funny cause at the beginning Rob Zombie was all, \"You\'d better not try to trick us or Ill tell the world your full of *$@\" and stuff like that. *rolls her eyes*

At any rate, I really enjoy his illusions. They are pretty fun.
