Realistic Robes and leather

Am looking at trying my hand with a few 52mm historical peices but want to paint robes and dark brown leathers with more natrual tones, do you guys know any good colour combinations for in the VMC range ud be kind enough to share? :duh:

A suggestion you could consider;
Try VMC Chocolate brown as the base coat and add washes and glazes of German Camouflage Black Brown and add highlights with Orange Brown and Dark Sand mixed into the Chocolate brown.

Might be a starting point towards what you are aiming for.

Do it by eye!

Seriously, formulas can be a bit of a trap. It\'s better to develop your own ways of using colour based on the paints you actually have. Remember, paints aren\'t colours; they act the way they act based on the pigments they\'re made from, not the colour they appear to be.

So pick the basic colour for the leather - dark brown, black, tan or whatever - paint that, then highlight and shade it. Then do any weathering/wear with ochre/tan. Last step, apply a little something to gloss up the surface of the belt where it\'s not worn and bingo, believable leather.

cheers guys, am not after the perfect receipe, just some tips for base, highlight, shade so i can have a play around lol

iv had a look alot at vincenti\'s stuff, his stuff is somethin else

a good leather recipie for a used and stained leather is scorched brown (vgc) beatsy brown (vgc) for midtone and pale sand (vmc) for highlights.

you can then oil/weather it with smoke and purple or change the purple for blue if the mini is using a cold pallette.

by changing the midtone you can drasticly change how the leather looks.

chars, scorched brown, isnt that a GW paint lol i cant find a VGC by that name.
looks like ill have to get the paint of ebay since am not having much look finding somewhere in liverpool that sells vgc

it\'s the game colour equivalent of scorched brown.
i forget names all the time and get different companies mixed up, mainly due to not worrying too much about precise colours as i just grab stuff and mix others in as i go along to get the shades/tones i need as well as making sure the shadows look natural as well. (finaly starting to realy understand this colour theory business!)
