getting that yellow right is a pain over black.

first off if you can undercoat the pads you want yellow in white rather than black.

if you can\'t do that then paint over the black in a solid white first. then you can gat a base of golden yellow over that.

you will have to do a few thin coats to get it nice.

TRy usingt vallejo yellow. Vallejo paints tend to be more opque qnd cover better over black; this is especially true for the reds, haven\'t tried with yellow though. Good Luck

I would suggest using opaque paints to get as close to golden yellow as you can get.

You may work your way up with white or browns with good coverage.
Sunburst Yellow is also a lot more opaque as Golden Yellow witch is semi-transparent at best. Furthermore, some SY showing through GY is less prone to be spotted. If you want you can even incorporate the SY in the process of highlighting.

I\'d suggest leaving the pads off when you prime the model and base-coat them white, and the rest of the model black. (you can trim the shoulder pads black, where you want the greys to be, so it matches the model)

You can also use undercoats, before painting yellow onto black, such as a brown or an ivory, and work your way up. That should give you a nice deep warm yellow.

Yellows are tricky!

Painting yellows on top of any dark color is tough. Even the better pigments (Vallejo) may take a few coats to get decent coverage.

If you\'re really wanting to do yellow on top of a black base coat, you can, but realize you\'ll have to do a couple of things:

1. Paint a thin coat of white on the area.
2. If this is still too dark, do another thin white coat.
3. Paint the area with the shadow color you\'re going to use for your yellow. Either a medium brown (like Snakebite) or an orange, depending on the kind of yellow you want.
4. Paint the yellow, leaving some areas of your shading visible.

You may need to do a couple of coats of yellow to get it bold enough. The key though is to make your coats thin, otherwise it will get a chalky look to it.

Good luck!

I agree with you on that one. I would start with a base coat of brown too. Also Vallejo game color has a really nice golden yellow (Sun Blast Yellow) that would be a great mid-tone to base your yellow on.
