REALLY TIRED of Pro\'s...

searching in ebay i found A LARGE abuse of the PRO term... i think many people (me included obviously lol:innocent: ) must learn about honesty and self criticism

Agreed, there are even Advertisements on the CMON site for Ebay related \'Pro\' painted mini\'s. When infact they are only average, sometimes infact poorly painted.

i agree with margo. let the quality of your painting speak for itself. the people who think that that is pro painted wouldn\'t be bidding on your stuff anyway as it\'s waaaaaaaay out of their league. heathens!!

true but not adding that *shivers* horrible term would cut you out of the search. I would use it again if i had time to sell on ebay. If not then you would only be hiding your work from alot of ebayers. Some pro painted titles stuff is funny though. Hey it was them that made me start painting again. Many thanks to the terrible painters out there!

It\'s horribly widespread because it\'s completely true. If you sell something you are getting paid for it, it makes you a pro by the strictest sense of the word. So even if your quality is utter crud, once someone pays you 10 cents on eBay, your \"pro\" rating is confirmed and endorsed even if the miniature was worth 10 dollars before you painted it and you lost several dollars and countless hours of your time on the transaction.

I dont really like seeing people abuse the term either. It\'s highly annoying to come across another \"pro\" painted mini that my 7 year old son could paint, but I find it hard to get mad anymore. Sometimes I just gotta laugh and wonder who they think they\'re fooling. Cest la vie...

I never use it, never have and never will unless things change. I think it now has almost the opposite effect, trust me if you put good/real quality painted stuff onto ebay, people WILL find it, whether it has \"pro\" in or not, when i see the term it just makes me think the person is trying to prove something (not you btw darkart i know you actually do it just for the extra exposure).

but my point stands, and yes it kind of annoys me too, but it\'s not something we can change so we may aswell just sit by and watch the show.

Well as far as I can tell the difference between a pro and an amatur is that they pro gets paid. They are not stating they are good just that they are painting for profit. No biggy if it doesnt look good I wouldnt buy it.

I don\'t think getting paid makes you a pro. The Pro or professional term means that you are set to a higher standard.
Adding this to your listing is just as bad as someone selling you counterfeit things in auctions.

thats the price you pay for being an idealist
i never used the word and never will because if all of us wouldnt use it you could easily sort out the bad miniatures just by the usage of the term \"pro painted\"

There are some \"professional\" plumbers etc. who drive around in a van and have a tool belt, but show up drunk and can\'t fix your toilet properly. They are professional though because you have to pay for their \"help\". This just serves to remind us that the word itself is meaningless, unless there is a central accrediting body, which doctors and lawyers have but mini painters do not.

... Which is how we should view it in relation to eBay listings. You\'ll never get eBay to see it as \"fraud\", because, well, it isn\'t. It\'s marketing.

In all honesty why let it bother you.. really what does it hurt if someone uses it or not. I find most collectors and buyers know how to search through all the painted minis on eBay to find the good ones.

My suggestions if you want your work to be seen, use CMON, use the gallery thumbnail picture option on eBay ans insert a set of initials or name in the end of all your auctions. An example Micro art studios uses MAS in all their auctions. USE your own web site if you have one. Post in all the forms that allow you to post auctions.

Far a while everyone inserted \"Painted Warhammer\" into their auction titles becuase that seemed to be the big search phrase even if the figure had nothing to do with Warhammer..GW did their best to put an end to that by getting auctions pulled.

If your work is good, the buyers and collectors willing to pay for your work will find it.

Sorry Scott but you can. It\'s has to be fossilised, but it can be polished.

As to the title of Pro-Painted well if the painter has sold items previously on Ebay before than they are a \"pro\", But as NSA said there are Pro\'s and there are [size=-2]\"Pro\'s\"[/size].

Anyhow this is a discussion that has been raised several times before without resolution, as there isn\'t one.

I have yet to retain attorney\'s services so I will withhold criticism; but why do fat doctor\'s love to tell me the following: \"Your checkup shows you to be the picture of health; but you should quit smoking.\" To which I reply: \"You should jog around the block and eat lettuce.\" or \" You should stay out of the meds locker\".
I think doctors should have cards at the front desk that are like baseball cards; showing their stats. Like losses on the O.R. table, number of malpractice suits etc.

But they get paid so they are technically pros.

Dark-Art began selling on Ebay before setting up the web-site, we used the term Pro-Painted to get people looking at the listings, When we have any free time we still paint miniatures to go on Ebay, We feel this is right because we first began selling painted miniatures on Ebay. Now not only does it promote the web-site, but it gives people a chance to own a miniature painted by Dark-Art. Not everyone can afford to comission us to paint for them, This way people have a chance to own one of our painted miniatures, by Selling this way (uncomissioned) is good for our reputation and helps the name (Dark-Art)
to grow.

next year we will be using the term Studio-Painted by Dark-Art as we are an established name people know what to expect from our work.
To us Pro-Painted miniatures are painted quickly for sale and people who selling miniatures painted to the best of there abitilies should use the term competition standard. at the end of the day the buyers know when a mini is well painted or not and the price the piece goes for reflects this.

hey! quit bashing the crapily painted pro painted minis on ebay!!! i find great joy in laughing at them as i can actualy paint better then alot of the models i see on ebay..!!! it makes me feel all good warm and fuzzy inside! lol
