Hello everyone! I'm new to the whole painting miniatures and tabletop gaming, and decided to jump in and see what this hobby is all about, so I went to a few FLGS and got some goodies and ordered stuff online, just wanted opinions on how my first mini looks, constructive criticism, etc. I had a load of fun painting this, and hope to continue doing this for years to come.

Hello, that's a good start... It is quite neat and tidy, with some good color transition. Try to add some more highlight to the muscle on the thigh...
But prior painting you need to clean your model better, there is an ugly mold line on the top of the head. Bones material is really not easy to clean... I still didn't find the secret recipe to clean them well without having some burrs remaining.
Good luck with your painting and start a WIP while asking questions! It will help your progress tremendously.

Yeah I realized after I put 3 plus hours on the backside that I neglected to check the head :/ and it has not been based yet, waiting till next paycheck to get flock, cork and some milliput I think it's called. And the highlight didn't show up as well as I'd like it to on camera. Thanks for the advice though! I watched a lot of vids and read so many articles I found that washes then drybrushing makes for some really nice effects. This mini was almost entirely drybrushed haha

The color transition from the bottom to the top of the body is very smooth. Great start and welcome to the demented hobby ;) lol. And if there is one thing about bones, they have magic mold lines. Clean ten and you find ten more once you start applying paint.

Is there any good way to clean up Bones mold lines? I have yet to find a way that satisfies me. Cutting it off is time consuming and easy to make a mistake, sanding it off doesn't work well... ideas?

Good question that i do not think anyone has a great answer for. For the easy access ones they slice off great with a knife. The back side of an xacto works decent as a scraper. A lot of people have had success with sanding sticks/needles...my results have been so so with sanding sticks. My files work ok, but create plastic stragglers that need cut off when you are done. My best luck has been with carbide scrapers from RioBondo (sp?). But they are expensive and not sure if he bones are worth the effort...but they are fun the play around with for tabletop work.

I would think with some work a solvent mix could be worked up that could be brushed on to disolve small mold lines. Still waiting on the easy solution.

I was thinking, but never tried out, to heat the blade before cutting or scraping. I have small burrs everything I try to scrap. I need to cut the material out, with a new blade, a really sharp one. It is the only reliable technique I found so far.

I just take my time and use the tip of the blade only, seems to work best with a fresh blade, I also resharpen my xacto blades, even before I worked with minis
