Reaper Clay Golem

Ok, so I thought that as I\'m approaching my Freakdom I\'d better prove that I\'ve been doing something other than hanging out in the forums all day every day. In fact, last week I managed a trip to London and finally got round to visiting Orc\'s Nest (excellent shop) where, after staring lovingly at walls filled with different minis, I eventually walked away with a nice selection of minis (after paying for them of course).

However, with painting time still being a major issue for me I decided to try something different and quick. I usually paint a mini by starting with dark base colours and slowly highlighting up. For this mini I decided to go the other way and basecoated it brighter and shade down with washes and glazes. Also, I limited the main part to just two paint colours (Bronzed Flesh and Terracota).

Also also, this was the first time I used paint additives (Tamiya \"thinner\" and \"clear\").

Still a bit rough and unbased but what think you as a start?

Awesome start, a bit plain with only two colours, but looking good

Btw, that mini really looks constipated

Good start. The colors work well together. Good contrast to each other.

Especially on the flesh tones it could use some different colors in the shading/highlighting. There\'s a sameness to the whole thing that makes it boring to look at. Mabey shade with a duller brown and highlight with a TOUCH of yellow added to the skin color.....something to add a variation to the color scheme.

I kept it simple because I just desperately needed to have something looking painted as It\'s been so long since I last came to near finishing anything. Your right that it does need more before being submittable though - thought about going more reddy as he\'s supposed to be clay (hence the automatic choice of Terracota paint).

@ Sigmork, yes I noticed the constipated look and was tempted to paint the trunks as a nappy but resisted lol

looking good...........did you mean for him to look like the \"THING\" from fantastic 4, if not I\'d lose the blue pants.

They started off as brown but that didn\'t contrast enough with the clay-skin. I think that Marvel may have been a subliminal influence on the alternative scheme.

Oh, and I seriously recommend this mini to everyone as it has so much character and is really well sculpted but remains relatively simple to paint - a good old fashioned fun mini.
