Reaper Learn to Paint kits :3

hello guys :) i am relatively new to painting, just started some 3 months ago :) i have a passion for Privateer Press\' Warmachine, and i really wanna hone my skills some more :) i\'ve been using p3 paints and have had uh...rahter good times with it :)

i\'ve been told that Reaper Master Series paints were also good, so i am interested in trying it out :) i ran across their \"Learn to Paint\" kits, and i think this is a good opportunity for me to get into it :)

what are your opinions about them? what sets are best to get? also, i saw they contained only pro-paints, but i heard some will be containing RMS soon :) which sets would those be? pls. pardon my barrage of questions ^_^

i do find set #3 and #5 interesting, but i think #3 (Non-Metallic Metals) is still pro-paint :s any info on this? thanks much, and God bless you guys ^_^!

The Learn to Paint Kits originally came with the Pro Paints. Reaper switched to Master Series Paints a year or two ago. Unless you\'re getting really old stock, the box should contain MSPs even if the box art still has the Pro Paints.

One way to be sure is to look for a \"Now with Master Series Paints\" sticker.

The boxed Learn to Paint kits (with the MSPs) are a great bargain since you get 9 paints, 2 brushes, 2 minis, and instructions for the price of the 9 paints.

Also reaper switched their paint packaging again, so now with LTP 4 and 5 you only get like 2 bottles of paint, and the rest of the 6 colors are actually these cheap small pots of paint that are attached together with a piece of plastic. Their site probably has photos.
I would suggest trying them to see if you like their paints, but even though they market their paint line as for the more advanced painter, I find they are pretty poor quality. I talk to a lot of golden demon painters and rarely do any of them use reaper. But again give them a try to see if they suit your style.

LTP #1 (revised), #4, and #5 come with 5 (I think, at least 3) bottles of paint and the paint-pot strip now.

I find they are pretty poor quality.

In what way are they poor quality? Coverage, thinning capability? Something else?

I talk to a lot of golden demon painters and rarely do any of them use reaper.

But, how many of them are GW fanboys who only use GW paints?

by that, which set do you mean :)? coz the ones i saw that contained those things iirc are #1, #2, and #3. hmm.. i could be wrong though.

oh man, it sure is a bummer to be stuck in a non-reaper country T_T. i\'m placing this as an online order, so i dunno if i end up with a blister that has Pro Paints or RMS :p

why does life have to be this complicated T_T? hehehe.

hmm... the ones with the most RMS are:

LTPK #4 and LTPK #5. i think they have 5 bottled paint and that strip, 2 minis, and are those 2 brushes? or just one :s?

The Learn to Paint Kits #2 and #3 still come in boxed versions. If you get new(ish) stock, you\'ll get the 9 MSP bottles + 2 brushes + 2 minis.

Learn to Paint Kit #1 used to come in a box. If you get not so old stock, you\'ll get the 9 MSP bottles + 2 brushes + 2 minis. If you get new stock, it\'ll come on a card (5 paints, paint pot strip, 2 brushes, 2 minis).

If you get old stock of LTP Kit #1, #2, and #3, you\'ll get Pro Paints.

Learn to Paint Kits #4 and #5 have the 5 paints, paint pot strip, 2 minis, and 1-2 brushes (not so sure about those).

If you want the \"best buy\" I\'d go for Kits #2 and #3 for sure. There is a one or two bottle overlap between the kits. #1 is still a decent buy (even on the card), but not as good as the boxed #1.

If you are ordering online from one of the bigger places (Miniature Market, WarStore), then you\'ll probably get fairly new stock. If you order straight from Reaper, you\'ll definitely get new stock.

Then you need to devour the following website:

A ton of info, tutorials, reference color schemes, etc.

hehe. yeah. i do love that site. it gave me a whole lot of new perspective and inspiration in painting ^_^

anyhow, thank you all for the sound advice :) though, just to clarify my purpose in doing this, i am not being cheap :3 the reason i did some canvassing and such is because in our country, hobbies like these are rather hard to support. i\'m not gonna be democratic and all that jazz about it, but some of you do know that what costs in amounts of tens there are equal to hundreds to thousands here :~( hehehe. so, for example, a unit of knights exemplar from Warmachine costs $30 in the US, but it costs P1,500.00 here :D waaahahahahaha :D

anyhow, let\'s forget about that :D again, i want to thank you guys :) God bless, game on, and more power :twisted:

Don\'t bother with LTPK 2; I picked that one up, got confused with the instruction, and then later realized that this was actually the first LTPK that Anne Foerster created. The instructions are pretty bad and very confusing.
Get it if you need the paints and minis, but not if you need to learn skintones or cloth.

LTPK 1 just talks about drybrushing and washing -a good beginning kit. LTPK 4 & 5 are better quality instruction, that include information on other techniques, such a lining and glazes. Very useful.

I personally haven\'t tried #3.

uhh... i just need the paints, minis, and brushes ^_^ i\'m sure the good people of CMON would be kind enough to help me with painting advice :D?
