Reaper Master Series

Hey Guys (and girls, and women, and men, and well... I don\'t know what you are)
Yesterday a package from Neal at the war store arrived in my mail and in it was my first batch of reaper master series paints. Upon trying them out yesterday I thought I\'d write a short review so here it is:
Reaper Master Series paints are at the top of the line in terms of new technology in miniature painting. There range is basically anything not in the pro paints range and is in an entirely different system which is similar to the foundry paints but not as expensive. I myself am a fan of the triad system as it makes it easier to place your highlights and shades when not going to fancy.

I must admit that at 2.99 USD (though I have seen them at 2.50 on many places on the interweb) it\'s quit expensive. It has a thinner paint quality than Vallejo so you get a little less paint for your money but I really don\'t mind paying the extra couple of bucks for a better quality paints.

Good:
This stuff is like silk it goes on so smooth!
The new triad system makes in very easy to find the right paints.
Agitators are already in the bottle (which I personally like but some people don\'t)
They are thinner than other paints.
They take longer to dry.
Better adhesion.

Bad:
Every once and a while the agitator clogs the bottle.
Glossy-plastic finish (But I think some dull coat can help that)
You get less paint for your money.

Must haves:
The lining triad. I think we\'ve all been waiting for paints like these! I can\'t stretch how much I like these enough!

Avoids: The triad of 9115 Ritterlich Blue, 9116 Brilliant Blue, and 9117 Cyan Blue is EXTREMELY grainy. I don\'t suggest you get this one.

I\'ll try to come back and comment a little more later, since I enjoy these paints also, but I just wanted to make a note on the blue triad that you mentioned. There\'s a thread on this topic over on the Reaper forums. Apparently the first batch was overpigmented or something like that, and future batches shouldn\'t have this problem. There are also a few paints from other first batches in the line that are overly glossy or have other minor issues which have been corrected in subsequent batches. Reaper has a good track record of working with people to replace/exchange faulty product. I think the address to contact is questions@reapermini.com, but you can doublecheck on the Web site.

All of the paints I got were overly glossy. I think it\'s how they are all ways going to be.

That\'s funny - I just ordered my first Vallejo paints from the warstore! (I also got some from another store; I was looking to fill colors for this NMM recipie )

I\'ve been converting over to the Reaper Master paints from GW for a while, and been pretty happy. Right away, the Reaper white covered a LOT better than the GW white, for example.

My new Vallejos, by contrast to the Reapers, are extremely thin, almost watery. The colors are separated in the bottle, and if not agitated quite a bit come out separated and grainy. Nevertheless, they seem to cover well, and (eventually) come out smooth. The color range is impressive.

I\'ll probably still stick with the Reapers, especially considering they\'re availible at a local store (unlike the Vallejos).
