Reaper Rips-off Rackham

I was just checking out the Reaper website and there was a big new update on 2-24 showing off their new lines and looking through them, I noticed this particular figure in the Exalted line:

http://www.reapermini.com/gallery/exalted/61011_G

Gosh, that looks familiar! Now, where have I seen THAT stance before?? Oh yeah, maybe HERE:

http://www.rackham-store.com/boutique_us/fiche_produit.cfm?type=129&ref=BARG_0202&code_lg=lg_us&pag=1&num=9

I thought Reaper made nice enough mini\'s without having to take ideas from other companies. Geez, this makes me lose a little respect for them (especially since I HATE that pose! Have you tried putting your arm like that? Ouch!):mad:

Yeah, well, at least Reaper\'s version is rationally proportioned, is not knockkneed, and is wearing sensible armour lol lol

YOu\'re right, though. It is a pretty obvious pilfering of an idea.

I am not so sure...

The pose is certainly very similar but when I look at the Reaper mini I think it is clearly identifiable as Reaper. Similarly the Fianna is clearly Rackham.
I hate to say it Dauber, but I think the Fianna is as rationally proportioned as the Reaper - perhaps that is the trans-atlantic difference? Although both have unfeasibly large weapons.
If the Fianna had been living on a diet of snails and boujolais nouveau she could easily be that slim, and if Ms Reaper has been at the hamburgers, well...

And just remember, Reaper\'s Cheaper!

I just like the prices on Reaper figs. They are very nice, especially for the money.

The Reaper fig\'s outfit looks a lot more reasonable, too. I can\'t imagine boobs NOT falling out of the bottom of the Confrontation armor, unless the were held in place by either glue or magic.

...and that\'s a bad thing, right?

I remember thrashing a friends GF at badminton until a slight \'costume malfunction\' occured. I then lost heavily. Fiannas might not be as daft as they look:D

How about this one? http://www.reapermini.com/gallery/2700s/2782_G Remind you of a limited edition Rackham figure? Or how about these ones? Don\'t they look like Dirz clones? But I agree with Cerridwyn, you can\'t beat the price.

There do seem to be some remarkable similarities

However, do the Reaper minis postdate the Rackham ones...? We haven\'t got this the wrong way round have we?

style...

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Those Reaper folks don\'t live in a vacuum. They know how well received the Rackham minis are and are just trying to capitalize on the style.

I just wonder how much \"imitation\" gets you in trouble with a copyright law!!lol

Yeah, they do look remarkably similar, although the wolfen beat the lupines hands down (though I still bought the lupines too:rolleyes:).

Well...

Reaper aren\'t that big in the UK so I don\'t know who came first...
Every instinct I have however, tells me that they are rip-offs from Rackham, simply because Rackham \'broke the mould\' to a large extent and I can\'t believe they need to copy anybody.
If they are rip-offs, they might be cheap, but they are also clumsy, lumpy and totally lacking in any style whatsoever, compared to their Rackham counterparts.
I will just learn to live with the fact that my opinion might be unappreciated in certain areas:D

I don\'t want to get into a manufacturer/product line flamewar here, but since I think most Rackham minis either look preposterous, or are in preposterous poses (Fiannas are both), Reaper are idiots to try and ape them. Reaper\'s strengths, aside from *very* competitive pricing, are \"realistic\" minis, a broad product range and excellent sculpts. If they start making contorted circus freaks too, well give me a Sandra Garrity with 80\'s hair any day... :D

Just one flaw in your argument. If Rackham \"broke the mould\" how did they get so many miniatures???

I\'m thinking the mould is up and running just fine....

lollollol

Actually, I can appreciate both companies, but I will have to agree that alot of Rackhams competitors are taking note of what they are doing....

Very A-similar, almost I-dentical...

I like the chick that Rackham did, but I won\'t buy anything from them.

I don\'t like any of the Reaper mini\'s shown here, but I do like, and buy, a lot of the Reapers.

Have you tried putting your arm like that? Ouch!)

Actually I quite often put my arm behind my head like that, its comfortable, although I\'ve found if I stay like that for an hour or so it gets stuck and I have to use my other arm to get it back in the right place.

Yes, I\'ve been told many times I\'m weird...

Yeh, it\'s pretty comfortable for me too, though I\'m known for being amazingly loose and stretchy. We should get together and do upside down high-fives like that...it\'ll be awesome.....:bouncy:
