Reaper Selmarina - first submission

Hello everyone,

I finally found the courage to post one of my minis here on CMON. I\'ve been visiting this side and forum for quite a while now but didn\'t have the heart to submit something of my own.

SELMARINA is the first mini from this range I have done so far. I\'ve been painting for about 1 1/2 years now but until now I\'ve only painted minis for my 15mm wargame. So this was a comletely new experience.
I chose this miniature because I think it\'s a nice figure but I don\'t like her too much - I\'m quite afraid to start my spyglas miniatures because I don\'t want to spoil them  . So I figured that this was the perfect mini to practise.
It had to redo some parts more than once until I was satisfied but in the end I got her finished because at some point I was afraid to make things only worse if I did them again. But I think I learned quite a few things from painting her and I won\'t repeat some of the mistakes I made on this one in the future.

I definitely have to work on my photographing and photo-editing skills as well as on my painting skills. The pictures aren\'t as good as I\'d like them to be. The stones on the floor are moss covered here and there but the pics are too dark in that area to show and I just coudn\'t get it right.

I\'d really apreciate some feedback. It\'s often difficult so see one\'s own mistakes. So please, don\'t spare me your criticism and tell me what you think about her.

Greetings,
Telcontari

You may want to make the link more obvious, maybe it\'s my theme, but it took forever to find the link to the submission.

Voted and will be commenting. One question, why did you wait so long to post?

Thanks for vote :).

Well... I was kind of afraid to show my minis on the same plattform that hosts some of the most amazing miniatures I\'ve ever seen ;).

So I kept low and took my advantage of just watching, reading and learning from all the members here on CMON.

Oh, and yes, you\'re right, the link isn\'t very obvious, so here it is again:

Oh, I forgot. I also didn\'t have a digital camera until recently, so I coudn\'t take photos of my minis for a long time. Maybe I would have found the courage earlier if I had had a camera ;).

Flung you an 9... VERY nice stuff there, esp for a first mini. i even like that you included a money shot in there (bottom, middle-right) for SuperVike.:flip::bouncy::flip:

I voted and commented on your mini! Welcome to the forum. I hope you will enjoy it here. Maybe people will be brutally honest with you and such, but you will learn a lot and you will improve your skills rapidly! Ask anyone! :)

Cheers!

I checked her out and voted. I think it looks great.

I know what you mean about being afraid to paint a nice mini in fear of spoiling it. My Master of Carnage (MOC) has been sitting around for about two months now with nothing but a coat of primer on it. I look at some of the MOCs around here and stare in awe. However, I\'ve committed to painting him right after the holidays. Besides if he turns out too bad I can always strip it down and paint it again when/if I get better.

Thanks for this warm welcome :).

I\'m sure not all posts will be that positive, but hey, that\'s part of life and I\'m here to learn, so please criticise.

I can\'t see your comment(s) on the mini. Is it because it\'s not approved yet? Or is ist just my browser that\'s a little bit weird again...

@Itchy: ?
Sorry, didn\'t get that about the money shot.

Yep very nice and neat painting! Love the face..! Expressive with very nice eyes. a mid 7 I\'d say as it is. My critique is as Ritual said, your highlights aren\'t placed in an natural way. Another thing is that the surface of the paint seems rough at some places.. if it\'s not the pictures be sure that you aren\'t picking up dust while painting! You might consider using a matt varnish also the miniatures looks much better in photo then.

Yes, you are absolutely right - on some parts it\'s a bit shiny. And some are not as smooth as they should be. The second point is due to the fact that I had to redo many parts more than once and it got a bit grainy. I think it\'s my paint: I use mostly Vallejo and GW but I also have some other brands - on 15mm it doesn\'t matter so much because the areas are smaler but on this range it\'s quite difficult to get surfaces painted smoothly  .
I dull coated the mini of course but I think it\'s the paints again that some of them still look glossy. In daylight it looked quite well but the lighting I used for the photo wasn\'t as kind ;).

I will definitely keep in mind what you said about the highlights and try to get them right on my next mini.
At the moment I think I could get quite addicted to paint those larger models but I think my boyfriend would\'t be so enthusiastic about that because then I\'d stop working on our Demonworld armies lol .

I wish you all a merry christmas!
