Reaper Troll

Hi, Jim (Supervike) sent me a Reaper Troll for getting through the first round of the Iron Painter competition over on the Wyrd site. I absolutely loved it and knew i MUST paint it!

Looking at my Orcs and Goblins army i noticed i had two Slugdrools, one looks alright but because they are exactly the same, it wouldnt look to good in game. So i decieded to do a conversion of the mini Jim had sent.

Here is the origional as sold by Reaper:

I decieded that the pose was a bit flat and lacking dynasm, so i sawed both arms off and repositioned them to look more like he was attacking someone, rather than just waiting around kicking his heels.
I then added a shoulder pad, skull (on the top of his bony spike) and a spear, all bits from the Orc regiment sets.

I then prised him off his precast base (with the help of a scalpel knife!) so he could fit onto the Slugdrool base. On the GW base precut holes had been used so Slugdrool would slto right in. To get around this i glued a bit of slate whack on the top to hide the holes, then glued the new troll straight on.

This is the first Reaper mini i have ever painted, and...(wait for it!)..my FIRST conversion! (Yea!!)

Dang! That thing was in my mini drawer what just seems like yesterday, now its in England AND fully painted and converted.

Nice conversion work. Gave it an 8 in the voty thingie. :drunk:

The browns and the reds blend in together a bit to much giving it an overall appearance of to much red for my liking, but for my biggest strike against it that\'s not bad at all. I quite like the wood.

Well, looks like im finally hitting the high 6\'s, after lingering under 6.5 for a while iv finally tipped the balance and went above the .5.
So the 7\'s next!

well, it\'s a troll its painted... afraid its nothing special really.

And for voting (ppl will hate me) I say this is 5.5, as it is, for me, TT quality, but serioulsy, this can\'t be an 8, so MPJ, maybe judge the mini and not that painter?

Personally, I love the skin tone you\'ve achieved and the composition with the new pose and the base work really well. I\'ve voted (and gave more than Erik ;)).

If I had to pick an area for improvement I\'d prefer to see the skulls and teeth less white. But, saying that, the contrast is quite effective as it is.

Its very close to a 7. If more work was done on the claws teeth and skulls I would have voted a 7.5 I voted a 7 as I like your color selection and application.

You can definitely see the improvement in your work tho. keep at it.
