It's a little early but I was just wondering if anyone is planning on attending ReaperCon in Denton, TX in May. I'm planning on going - Lord willing and the creek don't rise.

I'd actually love to do a couple of shows stateside but atm cost is prohibitive.

lol! I'll let you know when I hit the lottery, Mike. Now, if you could make it to Houston, I can get you the rest of the way. But I hear ya on the price thing, I reserved a room but only because they don't charge for it until the date and have a flexible cancellation policy. So I'm hoping I'll have the money come May. It would be cool if I could find 1,2 or 3 people to split the room with, the hotel is the most expensive part of the trip for me. lol!

I'll be at ReaperCon, but then again I live in DFW and I teach at it, so if I wasn't there I'd be flooded in frowny faces .

I'll be teaching a freehand class (working on some new minis now with Gratuitous Freehand) along with a couple classes of the perennial ReaperCon hit, "How Not to Suck", which is a crash course of how and what layering is along with years of accumulated tips and tricks. I think there are already several HNTS alumni on here somewhere who've endured it...
The list of classes should be going online in a week or two with the early-bird class buying shortly afterwards; keep checking on their website to see all the latest on it. I'm guessing soon they'll have the complete guest list of painters and sculptors coming; some common ones from years past are Jen Haley, Anne Foerster, Derek Schubert, Laszlo Jakusovszky (of Hot Lead DVD fame), Bobby Jackson, Bob Ridolfi, Julie Guthrie, Patrick Keith, Gene Van Horne, and tons of others. Note that the above list isn't 100% confirmed as I'm back to being a freelancer and no longer work for Reaper as a timeclock employee, further butt covering yadda yadda yadda.

Oh cool! The freehand class is one I definitely want to take. I'm terrible at scroll/filigree work so need all the advice I can get. I look forward to seeing you there.

Tickets for classes are going on sale today at noon. Three out of the five seats will be sold online, and two tickets from each class are held in reserve till the morning of the class, so even if you don't get the one you really, really want before time all you need to do is be at Reaper bright and early when they open their doors for that day to claim one of the two remaining slots. We also get no-shows from time to time, so most people usually get a good amount of classes.

UH OH! I'd better see if I can find out. I have my Con ticket sitting in my shopping cart, so I can purchase everything at once. lol!

Awww...darn it, Beamo! Since this is going to be my first Con, I'm really looking forward to it. And the more folks I can meet from CMON, that only adds to the coolness factor.
I managed to nab most of the classes I wanted yesterday. The biggest one is the One on One class with Jennifer Haley! Whoo hoo!!!
Now that would be a fun vacation! And since Denton is right next to Dallas/Ft. Worth, there are other sights to see that make the trip interesting as well. I'm in Texas but so far away that I haven't had much of a chance to see a lot of stuff, but I did get to go to the Fort Worth Stockyards and that was cool! The stockyards are still just that but they have a bunch of shops and its really has a wonderful old west atmosphere.

Once she's working again, I do think that working holidays around conventions could be a good idea!

I usually do that, the few conventions I have attended anyways. A few gamedays in the UK....not anymore though, too boring. Thinking of fiddling in forgeworld open day next year into the travel callender.
Unfortunately all the cool ones I want to attend are I the states and when U figure in airfare and the like it just adds up to too much in the end

Aww, I'm sorry to hear that! It would be really cool if you could do working holidays though. I don't know about over there, but in my local area, the job market is just awful. That's why I'm working so hard to get the biz rolling.
Well, we're just going to have to get you away from weekends #1, and away from the big airports. For example, for me to go to GD in Chicago. If I leave from Houston Friday morning, stop in Dallas, then land in Chicago and leave Sunday or Monday, it's almost $500 for a round trip ticket.
But if I leave from small town Lake Charles, Louisiana (which is only 30 minutes from me, much closer than Houston), stop in Dallas, then land in Chicago - even though I'm leaving on Friday and returning Monday, it's only $300 for a round trip ticket.
Unfortunately, you'd probably have to go through Laguardia to go to GD Chicago and that's where a majority of your cost comes in. But if you go to a convention in the south and go through something like Florida (avoid Atlanta if at all possible) it might be cheaper. Dunno for sure but it wouldn't hurt to look into it.

Denmark to Chicago Games Day. Took me two seconds to find on Kayak.com. You bypass Laguardia and only have one stop.
Considering how far you'd be traveling the price is pretty darn good. Or if you leave out of Belgium (1.5 hour flight, so...about 3-4 by car???), it will cut out the short flight and save even more money. Shall I book it for you and the GF now? (I know, I know, shut up and put the bag back over your head Kath. lol!)

Lets see what the travel plans are for next year. This year we are all booked unfortunately, between Italy this summer and NFL in london in october (and shoes in Italy for the GF) we are all budgetted out when it comes to that.
My yearly (small) bonus from work is earmarked for a warhound titan.....and shoes for the gf!!
She turns 30 this november and being the shoe lover she is.....she is getting a pair of Loubutins:silly!:
