I've always wanted to go to this con but it's so far and at a bad time of year for me. Perhaps I will have to plan better for upcoming years. Kathryn, I saw the post about the one on one with Jen Haley. Color me totally jealous and a little heartbroken. I don't get too excited about people in general, but she has been my favorite painter for most of my painting career. Have fun!!
Oh, and I second the shoe thing. My guy is always trying to get me to buy shoes and flattering clothing..... I provide a good challenge for him.

But for next year how about you and I split a motel room? That will cut that expense in half for us at least.
For me, since I'm driving, the room is really the biggest expense of the trip. Unfortunately the one girl I know who is coming from Houston is staying at a friend's house not far away. So I haven't been able to find anyone to share a room with yet.
But when it rolls around again, I'll put on my travel agent hat and we'll definitely find a way to get you down here.

The one-on-ones are cool to be able to have the undivided attention of the sculptor/painter in question, but everyone will have access to all the painters and sculptors throughout the con. In past years all of the sculpters and painters were either in a large room upstairs at ReaperHQ or in the back corner of the warehouse, but for the Artists Conference last year we went with one loooong table out where the eating area usually was. I think we're doing the long table again for ReaperCon, but the decision has most likely changed a few dozen times and will change a few more.
In any case, outside of classes/one-on-ones you won't be able to sit at the table with the painters and camp, but you can walk by, ask all the questions that come to your head, and listen to the shop talk between a couple dozen painters and sculptors who've been doing what they love for many many years. Just be careful and don't think that you can buy attention with bribes like chocolate without getting labelled (I'm looking at you, Stalker Lawrence :

Me and my friends got really good at packing the portable party going to all of the horse shows.
Ah well, it's fun to think about even tho I'll probably be singing the George Thorogood song - I drink alone!
On a serious note, I've always liked Jen's work but I really enjoyed the CMON vid. After watching it, on a lark, I found her website and emailed her, saying thanks for doing the vid, I found it very helpful and really enjoyed it. I also mentioned I painted equine models as well as miniatures. I didn't expect her to write back, it was just a bit of "fan-mail" to say thank you. But lo and behold she did write back. Turns out she knows about the equine model hobby and has learned a lot of techniques from various model horse artists. She also really loves equine art and horses in general. Just about floored me. So at least when I walk in for the class, get star-struck, and words escape me, I'll have a conversation topic to fall back on so I don't act like a complete dork. haha!
The poor thing will probably be tearing her hair out by the time our session is over. I don't know how much painting I'll actually be able to accomplish. When I get nervous, especially if I've been running around like I know I will be at the Con, my hand tremors go into overdrive. I'll be lucky to hit the mini with the paint brush. :struggle:
