As title suggests I\'ve been painting another one of Reapers models this time it\'s the barbarian Hakan.

First off.

This picture is now about a week old, just shows the basic colour scheme that I\'m working on, yes I know about the white dots, blooming hard to fill em all.

Second Off,

post-4553-1207503331_thumb.jpg

This one was taken a few hours ago after getting a good few hours paint time last night before going out.
As you can see I\'ve lightened the skin tone slightly and darkened the lines between the muscles.
There\'s still loads to do and thanks to Meg (once again for all the great advice) I\'ve been able to make good progress on him, I\'ve still got to fill in some more those blooming white dots :cussing::cussing: but I\'ll get them eventually. Also need to do the sword / shield more (done a basic look but not great at metals yet). Also high lights on the cloth area and do the feet.

On a final note for now, there\'s some dots of brown paint where they shouldn\'t be, done by a stupid me when not paying 100% attention to what I should have been doing, but we live and learn right:innocent:
If anyone can give advice / critisems that be great in order to help me out.
Thanks.

Nick.

The photo looks a bit underlit and that can throw off how I would react to it. What I do see looks pretty good though. Still kinda early to really say.

You are definitely on the right track with this guy! The skin definitely has more contrast.

Now a suggestion for the eyes . . . the way I\'ve always painted my eyes and still do today is I black in the whole eye ball with brown liner, a black color or some other dark almost black. Then I add smaller dots of white to the area, basically leaving a ring of black around the white ball of the eye. Then I put a smaller black dot in the middle, then if I can manage (if the eye is big enough) I put a little reflective dot of white paint on the black dot.

Make sense? If not, check out the Reaper Tut in The Craft called Bette Davis Eyes.

Yeah I\'ve seen that on the Craft, and I\'ve tried many ways. Imo the best one I\'ve found is on Vikinglodgestudio\'s website, but meg, I\'m totally open to new things, so I\'ll give your idea a go and see what I think.

Just give it a try and see how it works. You never know! Might be that you like it. At the very least though it\'s another tool tucked away in your arsenal.

That\'s a good start! One thing that\'s leapt out at me, tho, is that the skin under his arms is as brightly highlighted as the skin on the top. I think it might look a bit less odd if the under-arm (and other shadowed bits) were just a couple of shades darker than the upper, brightly lit areas. I would also suggest that his underarm hair be darker than the hair on his head- more a brown shade. Sneak a peek at your own underarm hair to see what I mean! ;)

Other than that, I like the progess on his furry loin cloth and the shield, and I feel your pain with the white dots- I gets them and hates them too! :)

updates.

In brief (Because I\'m tired), I\'ve gone over the skin again, lightened some areas and then made way to darken around the muscles so they stand out more. I\'ve also high lighted the blonde hair again, though there\'s still some white dots (every time I Quickget rid of some, I see more :S). I\'ve also high lighted some the clothing and I\'ve also shaded the boots.
I\'ve started on the sword again which I wasn\'t happy with, also done some parts of the shield.

What remains for me to do now, is mainly the face and arm with the shield on it. Other bits are obvious.
Any comments as usual are welcomed, I\'d love to hear criticisms as well.

I\'d suggest that the shadow definition of the muscles is too strong. Make a glaze of the skin basecoat and washover the whole of the skin .
That should reduce the starkness of the shadow and start the model looking more blended.

Hi ya all.

After getting some much needed advice from now two Great teachers (OKF has joined the ranks) and giving glazing a go (Remember I\'m still new to this hobby) this is what I\'ve managed to achieve so far.

As one my teachers (Meg) has pointed out to me, the light part the hight light is still rather think and I totally agree with her, and something I\'m gonna totally work on!!.
How ever I wanted to post this on now and get the views of others then carry on with the rest of the model.

I know there\'s still white spots still there, but I\'ve really only been doing flesh, any advice is as always welcomed and wanted :D

Nick.

Wow, what a difference that glaze made. This guy is really coming along nicely, good work. I think this WIP shows what a very nice paintjob can do for a ho-hum kind of model.
Can\'t wait to see the next installment, thanks for sharing.

Nick definitely keep it up.

If you want to make the shadows darker take that blue color you used and add a little bit of a good dark purple with it.

Then you can go over all of that again with a nice rich brown. That will get the different pigments working together, make interesting mixes of color in the shadows and give a bit more depth.

Glad Aaron and I can help you out!
