Hmm, I really like Kaisers Orchestra, a norwegian band. Very hard to classify though, slightly \"rock-y\" but with orchestral instruments and weird lyrics sung in an impregnable norwegian dialect. Rammstein are good too. For Jazzy things I like Funky butt, another norwegian band, but it\'s very hard to get any of their stuff anywhere.

MMMM, grunge...I like a lot of stuff, but as for a favorite genre, grunge is what I grew up with and is very close to my heart.

Nirvana (early stuff is best)
Alice in Chains (you\'ve probably heard stuff off of their \"Dirt\" album)
Soundgarden (It\'s all good)

This should get you started. If you like Soundgarden, you might also want to check out Audioslave - It\'s the lead singer from Soundgarden with the musicians from Rage Against the Machine.

Oh, I forgot - I don\'t know what your religious persuasions are (if any) so don\'t take offense, but I\'m also into the heavier Christian rock bands:

Flyleaf - a great band with a really good female vocalist
Plumb - hard and grinding
Kutless - good alternative rock

I can\'t say i have a genre i like so i can\'t help you find your genre Liz. I just listen to what i like, sometimes that\'s just 1 song from a group. But bands i really like you can check out, that you may not have heard of before, include;

White Zombie / Rob Zombie - Hard rock, kinda an aquired taste i guess.

Lords of Acid - techo type... ugh i\'ll just let you youtube them as most of their songs are ugh... innuendo to outright dirty.

Marty Robbins - Some true old skool country music and one of the greatest voices in my opinion.

Nice taste in music Ritual! I\'m also a big Nick Cave fan! I went to the same school as him in Melbourne as a kid.

If you\'re digging Nick Cave I\'d also recommend Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen and a cool Aussie band called The Dirty Three. You\'ll love it! Also, if you need some music to soothe the soul I\'d suggest some Stevie Ray Vaughan and also some Bach and Handel just to name a few. Check out some Derek Trucks too. His band rocks!!

That\'s Warren Ellis\'s old band, right? He\'s part of the Bad Seeds now (and also a member of Grinderman, Cave\'s garage rock band). I remember seeing Nick Cave solo once (without the Bad Seeds) and The Dirty Three opened for him. Good stuff!

If you want something more atmospheric I can recommend Dead Can Dance (another Aussie band). They are incredible musicians and vocalists and mix medieval, barroque, classical, folk, world music (and a bit of new wave on the early recordings) in a very unique way. Also, check out Lisa Gerrard\'s (vocalist and multi-instrumentalist of Dead Can Dance) solo works and film soundtracks (she\'s done music for The Insider, Gladiator, Whale Rider etc.). Really good stuff!

You sure know your Aussie bands! Yep - That\'s Warren Ellis\'s old band. He\'s a very c00l fiddle/violin player!

Tim Rogers and Paul Kelly are also great Australian musicians with so much good music! I highly recommend those guys too!

Wow, this has given ME a few things to go out and look for.

Personally, I like pretty much everything. But when the :cussing: and I separated, I went back to the 60s and 70s, as most everything was upbeat. Can\'t listen to any country anymore, and am avoiding rap. But older hard rock was soothing during that time: KISS, Iron Maiden, etc.

Now I\'m drifting back into my old fave of 80s.

However the last couple of days talking to the :cussing: is making me want to start listening to some death metal.:moon:

Now THIS is one of my FAVORITES!
